Kigali, Rwanda- Daniel Teklehaimanot of Eritrea proved why Swiss cycling team Cervélo Test Team took him as a trainee after he won his third individual and team gold medal in the 144km African Cycling Championships road race staged here today.
Daniel finished the race in 3:54.06, with Stefanos Gebreselassie of Ethiopia coming in sixth place.
The 22-year-old Daniel is currently riding for Cervélo Test Team of Switzerland as a trainee, and he is considered by far one of the best young riders coming out of Africa.
Team Eritrea won all three races and won the individual and team titles.
The championships started on Wednesday with a 40km team trial that Team Eritrea won, followed by South Africa and Ethiopia.
In the second day of competition comprising a 33km time trial, Daniel Teklehaimanot finished first, with Tigabu Gebremariam and Stefanos Gebreselassie of Ethiopia in 3rd and 4th place finish.
