Europol has issued a warning to EU law enforcement authorities about the kidnapping of irregular migrants from Eritrea and the subsequent extortion of money from relatives or friends residing in Europe. In some cases, the ransoms extorted from European contacts have ranged from EUR 4400 to EUR 25700. In most cases, the process involved multiple negotiation steps and repeated increases in the ransom amount. Payments were made to multiple cash handlers used by organized criminal groups in locations inside and outside of Europe. The warning gave examples from Sweden and two other European countries in which demands were made on people who were relatives of Eritrean kidnapping victims held hostage and exposed to torture in the Sinai Peninsula. The operations were run by organized crime groups of Bedouin origin exploiting irregular migrants who had been kidnapped in Eritrea and Sudan by groups of Rashaida origin.

The Director of Europol said his organization was ready for coordinated action with Interpol to deal with the problem in Europe and the Sinai region. The European Commission for Home Affairs said this was a terrible tragedy that needed to be tackled from every possible angle, and she called for more cooperation between Member States, in particular regarding the extortion of individuals and the organized crime groups operating within Europe” that support and perpetuate the horrendous practices occurring in the Sinai.”

Israeli naval raid nabs Gaza-bound arms from Iran

    March 6, 2014

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli naval forces raided a ship in the Red Sea early Wednesday, capturing a shipment of dozens of advanced rockets from Iran destined to Palestinian militants in Gaza that would have given them greater reach to strike much of Israel, the military said.

The M-302 rockets were on route in an elaborate smuggling operation orchestrated by Iran, the military said. Manufactured in Syria, the rockets were flown to Iran, then shipped from its Bandar Abbas port to Iraq to cover their tracks and loaded onto the civilian cargo ship destined for Sudan. From there, they were to be smuggled overland through Egypt to the Gaza Strip, military spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told reporters.

Israel forces intercepted the ship, the KLOS C, in international waters off the shores of Sudan and Eritrea, 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) from Eilat, Israel’s southernmost point and only Red Sea port, Lerner said.

The M-302 rockets have a range of up to 100 miles (160 kilometers) and would have significantly improved the capabilities of Gaza militants, putting nearly all of Israel in their range, he said. Previously, Gaza militants have only been able to reach about 50 miles (80 kilometers) into Israel with their homegrown M-75 missiles. The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah used M-302s in a 2006 war against Israel, the military said. …

Bzeykelalem the next President of Eritrea should be a woman . We have enough of men for half century. They were brave during the armed struggle and they do not beat drum of war for every misunderstanding , they have more respect for human life, they know what does it mean to lose child , they will not send other children to war field having their own at home, corruption is not a big problem. May be the president office will have more telephone bill and that is much cheaper than a bottle whisky everyday.I will give my next vote to a woman in the democratic Eritrea.I promise and see forward to see courageous woman like Meron, Elsa, Selam, Dr Alganesh and others …the men are sitting and talking and the women are moving from one part of the world to another to save life .shame on us men.God Bless our women and let God give forgiveness for those who dance for Isayas.

I am very much with you, dear brother Simerrr2012.
It is also, that there is no “self manifestation” – they take backseat and sacrifice their selves for the victims…
    God bless You, my sisters!
