24 May – Independence Day!

Make this Independence Day the day we tell the world about Eritrea!

The Eritrean National Council for Democratic Change – ENCDC – is encouraging Eritreans across the world – members of the community, diaspora organisations and ENCDC members – to make 24 May 2013 the day we make the rest of the world aware of the dictatorial regime in our country and the desperate situation of our fellow Eritreans.

What we want to tell the world

There is still very limited awareness outside our communities of the situation in Eritrea.  On 24 May we want to highlight:

  • the tens of thousands of prisoners being held in Eritrea’s 300+ prisons
  • the plight of young people forced into indefinite national service
  • the lack of any free media in Eritrea
  • the lack of a national constitution
  • the lack of higher education – the only university has being closed down
  • the tragedy of Sinai, with those fleeing the country being caught between the Bedouin, the Rashada, representatives of the Eritrean government, and the organ traffickers
  • … and much more.  You know what is happening – spread the word!

How to do it

The ENCDC wants to see simultaneous demonstrations on 24 May everywhere there is an Eritrean diaspora community.

The 127 ENCDC members around the world will work with opposition groups in their country of residence to plan and organise demonstrations.  They will identify the local politicians and opinion-makers they want to influence, invite people from both Eritrean and non-Eritrean communities to participate, and publicise the demonstration on social networks and Eritrean websites.

Peaceful demonstration..

..is the most powerful weapon to use within a democratic society.  We want all the 24 May demonstrations to be effective, inclusive and respectful.  Say it loud! and stay within the law.

How you can contribute

If you are a member of an Eritrean political or social group where you live, contact them and ask how they’re planning to be involved.

If you’re not in touch with any of these groups, contact your local ENCDC representative.  Details are available on Eritrean media websites.

Appeal to young Eritreans

The ENCDC hopes that the many organisations of young Eritreans will contribute their energy and vision to making these demonstrations succeed.  In particular, young people can involve any of their friends and colleagues who still support the regime, to give them the facts about the evil practices of the government, and to show them the strength of support for an alternative.

The role of the ENCDC

The ENCDC is the highest umbrella group of Eritreans in the diaspora.  There are 127 ENCDC members in seven regions across the globe: US and Canada, Europe, Australia, Middle East, Sudan, South Africa and Ethiopia.

The ENCDC brings together representatives of 34 political organisations and more than 60 civil society groups, as well as concerned and experienced individuals.  It has excellent connections with opposition groups within Eritrea, and has developed effective working relationships with neighbouring countries.

Above all, the ENCDC has a clear vision of the present and the future.  It has been established with a binding founding document, the Hinsa Higgi, a political charter and a road map to guide its strategy.

The ENCDC is committed to achieving a peaceful, stable and inclusive Eritrea, where differences of ethnicity, politics, religion, culture and gender are respected, and all Eritreans have the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Join us to demonstrate on 24 May, and get the world on our side!

¨IF YOU ARE NOT WITH US ,YOU ARE WITH THE BANDITS¨

¨An open letter to the opposition ¨forces¨against the govt. of Eritrea¨

Eritrean mothers are confused..they want to be saved by the bandits..they are making their life living hell….You the opposition almost uniformly call them ¨Our Misguided brothers¨. The Eritrean mothers may have a request.SAVE ME FROM YOUR REPRESSIVE BROTHERS..rape ,robbery & mayhem..And they may also have a question..WHEN DID YOUR BROTHERS BECOME MISGUIDED..or IS THAT A EUPHEMISM FOR BANDIT COLLABORATORS.
Putting aside your UTOPIAN Eritrea that has as much chance as a camel being able to pass through the eye of the needle……HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO JUSTIFY THE CRIMES THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENNING SINCE THE INCEPTION OF EPLF..to HAVE BEEN THE struggle against RIGHTS ???You know ,just because all people believed i9n a fairy tale does not make it true.Santa Clause comes to mind.
And on a more fitting category ..the 72 virgins & their sympathisers are not camel herders but ingineers & doctors & not few in number.
When I was a kid ,there were people in Eritrea who believe extreme punishment..like to subject to unruly child to smelling burnning Chili/pepper was correct..it was extreme abuse.INTENTIONS DO NOT MATTER ,ACTIONS & RESULTS DO.
I am sure the Eritrean bandits believed they were fighting for us the people ..when reality what they have done since their inception has been destroying our family & social fabric…seeds of Hatred..that brought worthless vain deaths.
In a gross & offensive example..Child sexual preditors believe it is their extreme love for children that makes them act like wise…the gruop nis named NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association..They still do not have freedom fighters representing their criminal organization.
Mothers of Eritrea might say…..It is not Isaias..that is raping our girls..it is not Isaias putting people in Jail..it is not Isaias selling our people to Rashaida & Bedouin…(Tekle Manjus & former bandits that treated women as cooling their carnal desire)..it is not Isaias that is raping girls in the trenches & making them his bitches..ALL THE ABOVE CRIMES ARE BEING DONE BY PEOPLE THAT YOU IN THE DIASPORA TERM AS YOUR BROTHERS !!!
Now ,either regard them as the enemies they are or save us the false hope..because your Jebha 1970s – 1981…(refusing to kill criminals by accepting as brothers)..is not going to work.
So, ERITREAN MOTHERS MAY SAY…..IF YOU ARE NOT WITH US ..YOU ARE WITH THE BANDITS & TERRORIST- ABATER ERITREAN GOVERNMENT & HIS BANDITS
.You can not have it both ways..may say Eritrean mothers.

There is certainly nothing to celebrate about Eritrea this May 24. Life in Eritrea is far worse than what it was before 1991 under the repressive Col Menghistu, even under a war condition.
One wonders if the whole Ghedli sewra business was worthwhile?
The only thing Ghedli brought to Eritrea was misery, endless suffering, economic disaster, slavery at home and outside.
I don’t expect anything better from the national Bayto Hawasa with a vision that looks and copies the old jebha.
Many of the young Eritreans that I know of do not identify the so called Hagerawi bayto as their representative or many do not share its views and ideals. Many see it as a play ground of the old dinosaurs of the old and discredited Jebha.

  • Kabbire May 11, 2013

Everyone is talking about different versions of the short Ghedli “history” that turned Eritreans into “wefri barnet” as Adhanom called it. There may have been many Eritreans who fought and died in the name of Ghedli but at the end of the day, right now in AD 2013, we are worse off than where we were under mengistu hailemariam. Though Mengistu was bloody oppressive, the Jebha-Shaebia mafia gangs make Mengistu look “human”.

== A foolish way of doing business with neighbors ==

“Global Financial Integrity last year said Addis Ababa lost $11.7 billion in outflows of illegal funds in the past decade.”

Kabbire, NEW HOPE and few more Tigrayans on this forum have been trying their best to tell us that, Ethiopia is the last Utopia of Democracy on planet.
However, this latest news opens up a tip of an iceberg of Ethiopian underworld business dealings.

It’s true that Eritrea has a brutal regime, but who is to blame ?, why these people have to insult the country and it’s people, unless motivated by boundless hate.

These small men who pose here and on Asmarino as Eritreans, could be Tigrayans who lived for a while in Eritrea, they have too much hate that cannot be explained easily.
It’s important to note here that, many issues they raise are divisive and loaded with insults to Eritrea and it’s people. They seem to forget that the dictator and the top most echelon of the fascist regime in Eritrea is made of Tigreyans who suffer from identity crisis.

Needless to say, that Ethiopia is a developing country, like every African country who has just started to experiment with Democracy, it can also fail. But we Eritreans wish them only well and success on their journey to achieve Democracy.

On the other hand, we want our Tigrayan friends to know that, there is a long way for them to go before they can start selling their system to us, they are not yet there. Besides, no one buys a product with insults, it could be a marketing ala ‘Mekele’ but it’s a foolish way of doing business with neighbors.

Generally its is innappropriate to celebrate May 24, but instead it should bea fight for changes and rights a fight for your country and people suffering at the hads of mercyless Nmade Arab Rashaid and Budum,
Today, to hit a drum of celebrate is madness and it is sin by god, your brother/sisters are suffering at the hands of Rashaid and Bedum, Think for change and step in the ground for reality, life is one, no one can live for ever and do history for your rights rather than hiting drums that are exggerating the ingnorance.

    New Hope and Kabire,
you guys must have hit a sensitive nerve in “Kalighe”, the typical Kelbi Arab. Our proud ancestors have a saying “ab kndi qeranat ngwaEmamat”. Instead of challenging his Arab masters and the leaders in Asmara, Kalighe is talking about you and “Tigrayans”. It was only yesterday that he was worshiping Issaias as his “Eritrean god” that he carried him on his back from Nakfa to asmara, which he is accusing Issaias now of being Tigrayan. Tigray is no more the place where you throw your garbages. If you have the balls, try to throw him to your Arab gods. As far as I am concerned, Issaias and his gangs are as Eritrean as Cathedrale or Tselot can be. My disagreement with Issaias starts and ends with his politics only.
if Kalighe thinks Issaias is Tigrayan, there is nothing for Issaias to be ashamed of. Tigrayans are the current masters of the Horn of Africa. Not a minor achievement for people who started from few wefcho biet/ Tehanit makina to manufacturing their own tanks, 152 mm howitzers, and (Isreali style) drones, impressive universities and colleges … while you are burning your own languages and finally ending up in Arab slavery.
If the Arab slave thinks, he is better than the Tigrayan, let him dare to take Badme and other villages awarded to Eritrea from the Tigrayans.

Thank you for asking difficult questions where many people do not want to touch as “sacred” debri. Don’t be discouraged, if some of the people here are trying to shut you up in the name of “Suwuat”. As teklay noted above, we are currently here as slaves in Eritrea burning our own languages and identity and as Abeeds in the Arab world, because many people who asked difficult questions but very critical ones were killed as in sreyt Addis, Fallul, Menkae and G-15 by the Jebha and Shaebia gangs.
I am only surprised why are many Eritreans not asking important and critical questions.
enteseliTwom: Had you been living in Eritrea under a new regime of the present diaspora, of so called opposition, you would have ended up in Karsheli Abi smelling May bela, in bitweded’s current cell or executed by a firing squad of the present opposition.
Eritrea has along way to go but I have a lot of hope in the young generation, not the old slaves of the Jebha-Shaebia gangs who have no shame to burn Eritrean languages and heritage.

    keep on writing whenever possible

      Kabbire & Militia ,

Kalighe is a person with a mission & he is doing like many who pretend to oppose the government & want to shift to Tigrawot.Kalighe is not acting this way because a nerve has been touched . He is very articulate & patient when need to be.
IF ERITREANS HATE ISAIAS & MISTRUST Ethiopians..who wins ??? PFDJ.Now I will not insult him or know what is in his ¨brain¨…but Kalighe ..whether knowingly or as a private citzen..is trying to prolong the suffering of PFDJ.
Think ..gentlemen…HE SELDOM SPEAKS OF THE CRIME THAT IS HAPPENNING IN SINAI…HE ONLY PRETENDS TO BE ANGRY WHEN TIGRAWOT GET THE CREDIT.
HE USES THE REGIMES LANGUAGE & OUTDATED TACTICS ..TO CREATE WEDGE BETWEEN ERITREANS & THEIR REFUGE..the only neighbouring REFUGE.
KALIGHE IS A MAN ON A MISSION..WE MAYBE SMALL PEOPLE ,but..HE IS NOT.
HE KNOWS AFTER WHOM TO GO ….The people with clear message..like Militia ,Kabbire & OTHERS…IS THIS THE TIME TO GET ANGRY AT TIGRAWOT WHEN ONE ACTS TO BE OPPOSITION.
KALIGHE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING..TO DISCREDIT PEOPLE PEOPLE WITH REAL IDEAS.
Maybe He is scared we are menkaE..that are trying to snatch power from Hamasien…Well ,Militia..you know me…I could only be Yemin as I am From Hamasien.

Some of the few crimes among many committed by Jebha that the criminals in Jebha do not want to talk as they repeat Shaebia crimes as if a full time job:

In 2013,the mad dog Isayas has a mission,
    1) To sacrifice Eritreans in the war against Ethiopia by siding with Egypt.
    2) To sell Eritrean people’s organ by collaborating with Egypt.
    3) To surrender our port Assab to Ethiopia by leasing it to Qatar.

Unlike the mad dog Isayas the Eritrean People will always be on the side of Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania’s signed agreement in Entebbe, Uganda, to overturn a colonial-era treaty seeking a more reasonable and equitable utilization of the river.
