For reasonable person the question how to celebrate independence day become different issue at this moment
which is sad and unfortunate situation . I prefer not be part of unrealistic dancing crowd to fake misery for joy
at the expense of others suffering .
Let be true to ourselves and accept facts the way it is without exaggeration because it only hurts our reputation .

The armed struggle for Eritrean independence has been won but it was won so costly
and the fruits of it ended up at the wrong hands of criminals, corrupted and opportunists gangs,
hence unable to celebrate with the genuine Eritrean people and also unable to transition itself to the next step. May the almighty God bless the people of Eritrea and let them live in peace, cooperation and harmony with all its neighbors.

    “ብምኽንያት በዓል ነጻነት ግንቦት24/2015….”

On the occasion of Liberation/Independence Day……What “Liberation/Independence”, for Heaven’s sake? Eritrea was never, and still not, liberated on any 24th day of May.
Should we not, instead, have A DAY OF MOURNING – solemn remembrance of our compatriots who gave their LIVES in the wilderness of nowhere; in the Seas and Oceans; in the Sahara desert; in the hands of savage, cruel Bedouin Arabs, and their indigenous facilitators — traders of human spare parts?
If the meaning of “Liberation/Independence” is to be FREE from “colonial” powers then we should celebrate the strings of days of liberations/independence from the Ottoman Empire; from the Pharos of Egypt; from the Facist Italy; from the British Administartion, from the ‘backward’ [%@#$& *+&?] Habesha Empire and, if/when it comes, from Issayas Afewerki Abraha — synonymous as saying HIGDEF/EPLF/ELF. Now, please hold your ‘horse’ and don’t gallop into tantrum mode – after all, the eating is on the pudding!

May the Good Lord have Mercy upon upon poor Eritrea and bless it with a little sanity, wisdom and far-sightedness. THE END

    WHERE ARE THE PICNICKERS?

Stricken with excruciating grief and their heart weighted down with sorrow, the Eritrean American Civic Association (ECC) of Greater Boston resolved to suspend our country’s Independence Day festivities in honor of the hundreds of our countrymen and women who perished over the last few weeks. For the second time this year, the tragedy in Libya hit home when we learned one of the young Eritreans cruelly executed was an older brother of a member of our community.

Although June 20th. is instituted a national holiday to pay homage to those who died in the long struggle for independence, wherever in the world Eritreans hail from, May 24th. should also be an occasion to remember our martyrs who fell to defend a war declared on our people. By the same token, on May 24th, it is incumbent upon us to draw parallel and recognize that young Eritreans are succumbing because of a war declared on them by their own “government”.

As a fellow Bostonian, I wholeheartedly support and applaud the resolve of our community to counter the “government’s” deafening silence (when young Eritreans in and out of the country perish) by suppressing and silencing our music on this somber occasion. Who would have thought that Eritreans in Boston would rip a page right from the “governments” master playbook. Tonight, several members in the community are lined up to recite poems and deliver speeches to commiserate with the families who lost loved ones and the Eritrean people who, out of fear, cannot even show any sign of grieving, constantly fighting to hide tears run down their cheeks.
