I have a great childhood memories growing back in Asmara, our home, our neighborhood the games we played with other 20 children [salvati, hide and seek, may do tseba…],my first Clint Eastwood movie,my first Indian movie, the english novels that i read and shared with my friends, my first high school crush on a beautiful eritrean girl from geza banda, my first bust by my DAD smoking a cigarette in a tea room, my first kiss by a girl from geza kanisha in scenic Bet Giorgis. The panoramic view of Asmara skyline from the terrace of the 3 story building where i grew up. My large family that took in other less fortunate nieces, and cousins. We were almost a platoon, but we had a blast. I can go on and on……..LOOK AT THAT PICTURE ABOVE! WHAT KIND OF CHILDHOOD MEMORIES THEY ARE GOING TO TELL THEIR CHILDREN, HOPING THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE ANY? HE ACCOMPLISHED HIS GOAL. DID’T HE? HE IS NOT DONE YET.

You are talking about a generation that later joined the fronts in search of freedom, and waiting for them in Sahel was a human looking Satan.

I too used to listen to soul music in Hatzeyawi teashop, watching Indian and Italian films (“Mother India”, “Hate mere Sati”, “Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo”, “Per un pugno di dollari” ..etc), played pool game at Mahber-Tiyatir-Asmera underground club, danced at Caravel, and dated beautiful girls at Piccadilly etc. As you said these are the memories that many of my generation recall.
Those who are being tortured by Higdef in Sawa and elsewhere will not have fond memories of their childhood or adulthood, they will remember their time under Higdef as decades of cruel tyranny and slavery. Hundreds of thousands of people will need psychological treatment for extremely traumatic experiences they have gone through. Higdef is the worst enemy Eritrea has ever seen.

Once this regime is scraped and gone, hoping I will be around to see that day, we have a lot of work to do, a collaborative , skillful , and comprehensive intervention to rescue our youth from the traumatic experience they endured at the hand of these monsters.Doctors, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, nurturing mentors……………..this team of dedicated eritrean experts along with a solid , broad based, democratically elected selfless leadership, this is what is going to require to turn things around. Are we up to the challenge? YES CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY IS COMMITTED, NOT MAY BE,AND SOMEBODY IS GOING TO PAY FOR IT.

      Dear K.tewolde,
You said “once this regime is scraped and gone” What an encouraging phrase it is but from what we have been witnessing for the last 25 years, it sounds like it is a wishful thinking. A nation that endured the total obliteration of a nation in front of its eyes that thousands perished their lives for, a nation that tolerates the appalling abuse, misuse, rape, slavery, torture, mass incarceration of its children is not expected to bring about the necessary change because fundamental change can ONLY be brought when society is angry. Then one would ask, if all the atrocities that appalled the whole world could not make the subjects (victims)mad and angry and bring about change,God knows what?
It seems that the nation has come to terms that Eritrea is not worth the sacrifice and no wonder everyone, the old, young, men and women are on the run. If we are not up to the challenge, could it be Eritrea is not worth the sacrifice indeed?

Our generation left the comfortable life style in Asmera to join ghedli for the
sake of national patriotism for the question to bring freedom and justice .
The price Eritreans paid is huge but unfortunately some hypocrites with ill
will betrayed the promise vowed to their fallen comrades .
I feel the same when it comes about disturbing memory of these generation
under HGDF’s oppressive system and sold out blind supporters .
Thanks God for being self conscious to defend those weak in need and also
for giving us the courage to speak on behalf of victims against wrong deeds .

That is why many who warn our people ahead of time but contrary recieved
deaf ears couldn’t share the guilt like those who were part of process which
        led to dictatorial establishment .
They said ” ZNEDEK’KAYO KETEFRSO KELIL IYU ” means it is easy to destroy
a house you build . So in this case what is our people waiting for ?
        Mieacle from the sky ?

“It seems that the nation has come to terms that Eritrea is not worth the sacrifice”

        Haki

Eritrea like every other nation of this planet has its owners/people who want live in peace and look after their own business. When they feel their country is in danger they should protect it. What is happening now is that Eritrea is in the hands of a ruthless dictator and some criminals who don’t care what happens to her and her people. Don’t blame Eritrea, blame those who feel they don’t belong to Eritrea and are working hard to kill it.

Dear Haki, it’s a question everyone of us has to ponder.Dig deep into our souls and find an answer. But one thing I want to say is when unaccompanied 7-10 yr old minors leave home and cross the border in search of peace and better life something is fundamentally wrong.Regardless of the accommodations, if you give them the love and warmth of a parent, children will stay home. But, something stinks there ,the funk permeates in the homestead, the warm embrace of their parents went cold, and their eyes lifeless and hollow. The neighborhood have a sinister look like a graveyard. They see and old man carrying a rifle limping aimlessly, they think they’re going to end up like him one day, mother tells them ,there is nothing she can do for them, their little hearts gets sucked out their chests. They have nobody to turn to, and they run, and run aimlessly, and nobody claims them, even the [leaders] of the nation where they came from….I am weeping while I am writing this post…..I can’t continue..
