A stagnant mind in Asmara reflects at the AU summit in Addis through Girma Asmerom’s Vocal Chord
PART II
by Fetsum Abraham

This is a continuation of my last article on Girma Asmerom’s speech at the recent AU summit in Addis. That article discussed his grievance vis-a-vis the Badme or Ethio-Eritrean border issue.
In this article I will discuss my opinion on his short speech at the summit on the US.
As it had been throughout the Eritrean experience, philosopher Afwerki can not finish an agenda without injecting the term “lies” and “US” in his speeches. I can not tell you if phobia or obsession caused this amplified paranoia vis-a-vis said Lies and Americans but President Afwerki is in one way or another chronically in love with DECEPTION and the US: both have become the center of his existence. He is deeply infatuated with lying; he denies the existence of lawlessness and injustice in Eritrea. So in love with America he is on the other hand; the interesting president accuses it for anything including a hick-up.

Girma Asmerom’s predicament on the groundless Eritrean excuse of failure on the US

The Eritrean government press release on the AU Summit presented Girma’s grievance stating that; “In this connection, the misguided US policy is holding peace hostage in Eritrea and Ethiopia, and the Horn region as a whole, Mr. Girma Asmerom underlined.”

Comment

Eritrea’s threat is not dangerous anymore and can not be used to hold the East Africans hostage any longer. It is a paper tiger that has been neutralized through absolute dictatorship, poor diplomacy, poverty, lawlessness, political instability, sanction, isolation, academic and economic stagnation, arrogance, empty pride, increasing public awareness, weakened Eritrean army, etc. Besides, the genuine democratic development in Somalia has nailed the final impression to the dead case by sidelining Al-Shebab (the best weapon of Afwerki’s ambition to disturb the region).
As for Eritrea’s accusation of America, the US has no responsibility here than facilitating the process peacefully which it did; the rest is Eritrea’s, needless to say that the Super Power has indeed officially and clearly fulfilled its responsibility on the matter by virtue of accepting our country’s ownership of Badme, the REDSES COAST and our ISLANDS included: The fact that the US validated the verdict at the HAGUE unquestionably justifies this conclusion.
How can a nation that does not even have a constitutional law accuse America of holding peace hostage in the region? Can someone tell this government that you can not manifest the art of holding peace hostage stronger than denying a constitution and education to a society in a language it understands?
An obstacle that Eritrea created viv-a-vis the US.
Afwerki, after confronting the Clinton administration face to face for at least 2 years, the Bush administration for 8 very long years, happened to be the first president to pick a steam with president Obama immediately after he came to power. Obama tried to have it better with Eritrea but Afwerki refused.

EVIDENCE

One source of information says that; “On Wednesday, June 17, 2008 a VoA reporter revealed that Mr.,Johnnie Carson (US Assistance Secretary for African Affairs) had alleged that the Eritrean Embassy in Washington, DC had returned his passport “without a visa in it.” According to the reporter, Carson commented later, “If relations are not improved it will not be because we’re not trying to act as a respected partner.”
Another sources states:  “…..Mr. Michel Lewis [a politician representing the Europeans on the issue of Dawit Issac] explains the obstinacy of the Eritrean president [by] say[ing] the president has little or no interest in boosting diplomatic relations. For example, when the new US administration wanted to send to Eritrea Mr. Johnnie Carson, an official from the US Department of State, the Eritrean president insisted that he wants to talk with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. In relation to this, several letters were sent to the Eritrean present from the American government to which he did not reply even after several days. In spite of such confrontational (brutal and head on) approach, Mr. Michel says he tried his best to keep a good relationship, a relationship of trust with the Eritrean president, but he didn’t get what was promised to him. He added that he had done everything he could, listen to the president, never denounce him in public, show patience, and he thought that this would bring something in return. It never happened.”
Comment
This evidence discloses that Eritrea refused to normalize its relationship with America. Obama having had a job to do at the highest political pinnacle of the planet, had had no direct time for the vision less dictator.  Neither could Hillary who was busy working as the third strongest politician on the planet spare the time for the president of Eritrea. Mr. Johnnie Carson was what Afwerki’s standard of political status deserved at best from the United states similar few other leaders in the continent. He was the qualified diplomat assigned for the job by his president. Afwerki, however, made his desire to meet either with Obama or Hillary mandatory for dialogue between the two countries and refuse to accept Mr. Carson for a chat.

Okey; here is the thing: Direct dialogue with an American president is not something any president can achieve: one must earn it through civility and good diplomacy. Afwerki could not understand this basic reality. He wanted to be like Meles Zenawi who earned respect from all international leaders (academically and politically) and directly met Obama on quiet few occasions representing his country and the African continent including Eritrea. Obama invited Meles to attend the G8 meeting held at Camp David in May 2012, for example to represent “Africa on the issue that concerns the continent: From climate talk to the other issues” and he did. Afwerki was represented by Meles in that summit like were all other African leaders. The difference was academic capacity and diplomatic intelligence (“Meles acquired an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from the Open University of the United Kingdom in 1995 and a masters of science in economics from the Erasmus University of the Netherlands in 2004. In July 2002, Meles received an honorary doctoral degree in political science from the Hannam University in South Korea.”
Truth hurts but he educated himself and his fellow politicians after the war with Mengistu was over, ladies and gentlemen! If you have higher education in business, economics and political science, chances are you have equipped yourself with academic tools to lead a nation better than than those in the opposite side of the fence.  I do not think the Eritrean president went to school after independence; nor do I believe that he allowed his officials to be educated for their positions like Meles did, needless to comment that he does not appear like a person who self-educates through reading. But Meles qualified himself for a leader to be reckon with and had no problem meeting any leader in the world.

In short Afwerki did not allow Obama to play a positive role in any issue similar to his habitually rigid and confrontational diplomacy against other initiatives. Obama, therefore, can not civilize Afwerki by twisting his arms and must wait for something to change in order to help. I think brother Girma, once again failed to come with a new idea in this contemplation. There is no evidence that he provided for his allegation against the US at the meeting.

In conclusion, whether by personal, psychological,  circumstantial or psychopathic reasons beyond the comprehension of the ordinary mind,  Afwerki  can not avoid getting in cross roads! He can not avoid the US for survival; yet he can not stop accusing it for all the problems he created in the region.

Thank you for the follow up artilcel though it may be controversial on the following points.I will post my comments later on the EVIDENCE section but for now on the COMMENTS section.

    Comments Section:

1.”the Super Power has indeed…ownership of Badme” did they? Ref Jendayi Frazer Vs Jhon Bolton ….
2″… does not even have a constitutional law accuse America… region?” Ref: John Foster Dulles “United States interest in the Red Sea Basin… ” this statement came from America where there is constitutional law.

I will repeat myself here as I do many times but that is not because I love repetions for the sake of doing it, only that I am convinced of the veracities of the idea, and since I observe many well meaning Eritreans are either glossing it over as weird,or rejecting it offhand as farfetched speculation , the con artist Isaias Afewerqi is getting ahead unfettered and at full speed with his malicious agenda of fundamentally and permanently shattering our Sovereignty and people.

Therefore, Isaias Afewerqi should not be viewedd as a tyrant because that is very superficial and misleading but as a die-hard Conspirator against the very existence of our country. His willful extermination of our Intellectuals throughout the Liberation War and post Independence; His invasion of Ethiopia in 1998 in breach of International Law; His step by step suspension of the Constitution, disbanding of the Baito and incarceration of Senior Officials to rot in prison in 2001 and many many others are the immutable testimonies of wickedness.

I admit all the above evidences are circumstantial, and on top of that, all of them have overlaying reasons skillfully crafted and ornamented, geared for maximum deception of the naive and gullible. But again, you do not expect sloppy work from exceptionally intelligent but unscrupulous con artist like Isaias Afewerqi.

Lets see what Plato in his book, “The Republic”, said about crooked people with dark secrets, such as Isaias Afewerqi…………”.Since as Philosophers prove, appearance tyrannizes over truth and is the lord of happiness, to appearance I must devote myself. I will describe around me a picture and shadow of virtue to be the vestibule and exterior of my house; behind I will trail the subtle and crafty fox, as Archilochus, the greatest of sags , recommends. But I hear some of one exclaiming that the concealment of wickedness is often difficult; to which I answer , Nothing great is easy. Nevertheless , the argument indicates this, if we would be happy , to be the path along which we should proceed . With view to concealment we will establish secret brotherhoods and political clubs. And there are professors of rhetoric who teach the art of persuading courts and assemblies ; and so, partly by persuasion and partly by force , I shall make unlawful gains and not be punished………..”. There you have it the unscrupulous Isaias Afewerqi fully unclothed for all of you to see.

However, Isaias Afewerqi is not working alone; woyane is his identical twin. Therefore, those of you who are floating with woyane believing you are struggling against Isaias Afewerqi, not only you have wasted your precious time, and probably your money too, but you have also been giving Isaias Afewerqi legitimacy to his perjury. Stop calling him “tyrant”; call him by his real name, ” Conspirator”.

I don’t have any idea what you are talking seriously!!! pls it’s comments section keep it short.

As they say, There is no one more deaf than he/she who does not want to hear.

Yes indeed, you do not to hear it but the message is clear, that the con artist Isaias Afewerqi and woyane are one and the same, working to achieve the same end, Abai Tigrai. The evidences are written all over the wall for those who wants to know. Of course, they will require inquisitve and analytic mind to see through the mist with which they are purposely shrouded.

Once we arm ourselves with the Truth of who the Enemies of our people and country are,—Isaias and Woyane—, and see each other eye to eye, because we have exposed to light the most vicious seemingly invisible conspiracy that has ever threatened the existence of our country and people, there will be no power to stand in our way from establishig Democratic Eritrea, where its people live in peace, serenity, unity and prosperity.

          • Warsay February 15, 2013

            @Dawit, YES !!!

Finaly one person whose opinion coincides with that of mine one-to-one “… artist Isaias Afewerqi and woyane are one and the same, working to achieve the same end, Abai Tigrai…” The fool Eritreans let them fool until “the sun sets”. We can already dream of the virtual Eritrea we used to draw [only]. In order to recognize these evil and secretive doings of the Woyanes in both sides, an extra portion of intelligence or intution may be needed.

That is why DIA tries to keep his slaves as ignorant as possible.

    Dear Fetsum,

Great insight about the state of our diplomat. They are puppets without any purpose. they can not think or do out side the box given to them my idiot leader. Specially this Girma Asmerom oh he is the most idiotic person in earth. He just follow the order and repeat the same thin all the time. The only solution is to get rid off them with his master. This people are sell out who careless out Eritrea or Eritreans. What is to do border issue to repress your own people. CIA or America have nothing to do with their behavior as a rulers of a land. They are useless good for nothing with the mad man at the helm. They have no capacity to negotiate or to deal with national issue and they can not let others to do the job. Iseyas and Meles ( RIP) are not comparable. There is miles difference between them. Iseyas is unstable, uneducated, unwise and insane while Melles is articulate, smart and born to lead. Iseyas is consumed in jealousy and dead brain he want to slid down the country with him. God safe eritrea.

To Dear MR Fitsum and all respected reader
Adio Ethiopia -Eritreia, this is the word of Italian teacher in santaana , when the flag of Eritrea lei and replaced by Ethiopian flag in Asmara ,and the unify with Ethiopia under federation legally endorsed by the league of nation. the same situation will happen in the recent phenomenon due to the existing failure of the governance thorough out the horn.
As you mentioned there is possibilities of people who can change towards positive track through Education. But you can get our governor Isias was talent during the academic and struggle for independence. He was also visionary that he could creating many strategies to had this independence although it had backup from Egypt,Iran and the likes. Although individual capacity has a role for any development it it very difficult to exercise unless we acquired the same knowledge in the whole society.
Thanks for your argument towards the capacity of the leaders of Eritrean and Ethiopian. By the way it is very difficult to compare and to measure whether it is best or worst. the owner of the capacity could be measured by its genuine, skillful, visionary, holistic, knowledgeable and competent person are the outcome of GOD.
If you come up Meles and Isayas, they have their own strong side and the worst side. Agitating once capacity and talent is depends on the agenda with the interest of individual listener or reader. with the existing time, place and condition. And some people they may have knowledge to articulate with lovely word and some they may write just excellent article and the other may have the power and ability to make serious decision. Some of them they may be popular for the slautering or murdered activities of the human being. So this is the capacity of GOD to cease the case. So we need to be wise for all because any input to any capacity , genuineity of individual to all human beings is given or loosen from God. Think over it.
        Thanks

    Dear Fitsum,

The substantial approach of your text has impressed me – thank you. We Eritreans have to perceive finally that DIA has other goals than we think or wish! We fail to grasp that we are walking on a different/false road. See/compare the reality on the ground and the ideal “ERITREA” we all have in our mind. The two don’t even harmonise to each other.

    1. Why do we have about 70000 Hi.w.he.t/Opposition group from Tigrai on our soil Eritrea?
    2. DIA’s relations with Ethiopian jornalist like Elias Kifle,…the so called Kinjit?
    3. Look at the irrationality of the deeds DIA is doing especially in the last ten years.
4 …etc DIA is just fooling us, the Eritrean dekebat!!
    5. It were the duty of a president to boost diplomatic relations. But as Mr. Johnnie Carson, an official from the US Department of State, said DIA is following other targets that are still peculiar to the “normal” nationals – he only confronts. We have to imagine the logic of his irrationality – He is realizing another concept, that we never designed!

  • Amazing February 17, 2013

It will happen over a period !!!

Eritrean independence was a dream in 1961 . But over thirty years it becomes a reality . For Ethiopia’s this dream was a joke but for Eritreans it was the determination and vision that brought all this realities.

Let me tell you , how I came up to believe about Isyasys “Abai Tigray dream ” with Wyane !

I had a friend of mine of course from Ethiopia ( Tigray ) , and he gave me a book written in Amharic about the whole Eritrean struggle and the role of Isyays in the struggle of Eritrea . This is around 13 years back . There was no one to understand me what I was saying at that time , when I was telling what I read . Then I left it to time . Now people starts to realize that Isyase is working towards making Eritrea to be ruled by Tigray .

Believe it or not , that is his goal . But Eritrean’s you will relaiaze it after the fact .

And it will be too late at that time.
