MANHATTAN — An African diplomat was found dead in a hotel near the United Nations Friday morning, sources said.
The man, who was in his 60s, was discovered unconscious and unresponsive at the Millennium Hotel, at 2 UN Plaza, at 10:40 a.m. after he failed to show up for a meeting, police sources said.
The Eritrean delegate was later pronounced dead. Fire officials said they responded to a call of a person found dead at 10:44 a.m. The permanent mission of Eritrea to the UN did not immediately respond to calls for comment.
The hotel also did not immediately comment.
No criminality was suspected in the incident and sources said the man died of natural causes. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
The UN maintains offices in the the building, but a spokeswoman said that the death had nothing to do with those offices or any others under UN control.
The General Assembly is in session this week.

No No I am not happy to hear single Ertirean pass away. it is not the death of the man needed. it is his wrong way of thinkig
we need to die. And talking and apricating the death of any man is not our culture. we need to think of changing PFDJ members and we must know that may be the man has died while he was regreting of his past stand. so be nice and don’t think similar of PFDJ supportes. after all they are our brothers. please be kind and think posetive. I saw the whole speech of pia at the un and he was very sad anyway all the ministers that came with pia were at the meeting during pia speech friday at 4:30pm and the guy died friday 11am and he wasn’t a minster any way may god blees his soul.

Eritrean died in NY and by making fun of his death doesn’t make anyone a better Eritrean and/or human being. Our beloved hero died but our struggle continues and victory is certain.

It is Eritrean Custom/Culture to wish good to those who passed away: Mengiste Semay Yewarisso/Allah Yarhamu! Every Eritrean soul as everybody’s else is precious. This diplomat’s death is very sad, whoever he was when alive. He might have been brutal as Esayyas; or a timid servant who did not know what he was doing because he might have been controlled and stressed out as every Eritrean serving under Esayyas. I imagine the “dead diplomat’ might have been rebuked severely by Esayyas for not doing enough work at the UN before Esayyas’s address. If Issu does not poison you his words are so venemous to kill a person. He (Issu) seemed very subdued lost and left out during his address to the UN.
If the “dead diplomat” is whom I suspect to be, he had never been a mature diplomat anyways ; he should have not been appointed even as a First Secretary.

We Eritreans are so slow to respond to the crisis in Eritrea which is costing us the lives of so many precious youth. PFDJ has made our beloved nation hell to live. It looks like God is taking matters into his own hands and punishing the regime’s accomplishers. I personally don’t feel sorry for him.

The excitement of the Kedaat on the death of an Eritrean citizen shows their narrow minded and hate filled bankrupt political ideology. I want to strongly remind them two important things. Regardless of difference in political ideologies mature politicians understand being an Eritrean is the common identification we have. Above all despite of the challenges the country is facing, the current Eritrean government officials gave their entire youth life to the country and none of them benefited from that yet. Each of you must understand that the sickness and accidental death of the many Eritrean officials is the result of that history. Regardless of challenges and unsuccessful dream I prefer to have the currently Eritrean officials administer the country than the Woyane tags. With the current government atleast I have a country and a flag. With woyane sponsored tags I will have none of them. Shame on you kedaat.
