Commentary, 5 July 2018
I heard the interview with interest. This is what I captured. If wrong, I would appreciate knowing it:
First and foremost, the relationship between two States must be based on: a) duly elected Leader of the country; b) availability of approved Constitution of the country; and duly elected members for parliaments of the country. These criteria do not apply to Eritrea. Therefore, the self-appointed Dictator of Eritrea is not qualified to represent Eritrea and determine the destiny of six million people.
Mr. Issayas Afewerki Abraha was never duly elected to represent Eritrea, hence his authority is null and void.
The second point in the interview is the urgent need to CLEAN OUR HOUSE i.e. there are a few cardinal sociological internal problems that we have to rectify before indulging in international agreements.
Third, there seems to have been dangerous assumption by the Prime Minster of Ethiopia in his speeches and even ‘slip of tongues’ on the part of the Eritrean delegation (who were not really qualified for the mission).

It should remind us what Musse Tesfamichel, aka Menkae, said forty years ago, “kem mendiulu tedelai fit yeblelna tedelei ka tuf.”
Isaias is a spiced cruel dictator. He does not even know that he is one but anointed as few of his followers.,
As Awet said, “The PM is doing what is the best for his country.”
So far Ethiopia had accomplished two important tasks to its advantage.. .
Dr Abey watered down all the opposition forces stationed in Eritrea peacefully without firing a single bullet. It was a well done job.
All the opposition leaders are now back home land and are enable to participate into the party politics of their flavor. Therefore peace is looming despite the impending disintegration recently.
It is losing a big card for the dictator while a big gain for Ethiopia.
The dictator knows that he is alienated from the Eritrean people long time ago except a few self-serving opportunists.
Also, at the age of seventy five he knows that his days are numbered that he has no chance to reign in Ethiopia..
Recent history in Uganda, Rwanda, Libya, Egypt is vivid examples. Like any other dictator, primarily he will save his life, as he had done it for last fifty years while using youngsters as cannon fodders to be slaughtered in masses. He would do again with his family.
What is in the oven is anybody’s guess. However as Mr Awet explicitly disemboweled all the gestures coming from Dr Abey’s are conflated.
All the reading coming from Ethiopia is more than one could digest it. But from experience, we should not trust the dictator so that we are not caught by surprise.
Reading your comment today in 2021 and reflecting on your last paragraph. Only if we could have heard to each other. We had concerns that war was inevitable and here we are witnessing the ugly face of it.
