Eritrea Focus, in partnership with the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, held a two-day conference titled Building Democracy in Eritrea on 24-25 April, in Senate House, University of London. The conference brought together a range of experts – Eritrean and international – to discuss, and begin to think about, how a free and democratic Eritrea might emerge in the future, post-dictatorship. Our aim is to play a facilitative role in this process, and to use the conference as an opportunity to look at the challenges currently facing Eritrea, in order to put forward solutions, and to assist in the emergence of a democratic government.

Independence.”>>>>> the focus just got blurred,there is one way to build democracy in Eritrea, to consult the people who are its righteous owners ,the people who gave their precious sons,daughters,their livelihood and everything they got to make it a reality.if we don’t approach it this way with intent and devotion,it will remain literary contest among political groups with conspicuous motives with no relief in sight to destitute state of our people.Democracy is not an MRE which can be handed to people to satisfy their hunger,it is a state of mind,the Eritrean people had it at one time but they got robbed by the very people who promised to liberate them.

Sounds absurd, isn’t it? Who is going to be participating in this circus by the way? The usual suspect? No brainer there are a bunch of self appointed regionalist egos out there, who think they can fix the problem in the country which is being destroyed by the corrupt and evil killing squad led by Colenel Ghebredingil being in London.

A good point – I fully agree with you. In order to consult with the Eritrean people one needs to come up with ideas. That was the whole point of the April conference.
The Buliding Democracy In Eritrea conference was a means to an end and not an end in itself. It needs to be seen in that context.

What else? To much conferences, meetings and chanting even manifestos, institutions, the “enough movement ” too is only a challenge but needs ACTION! that talks FREE ERITREA! because time is against if there’s anything to save. Eritrea is forced to die as a nation. Vacant from its people. .if am wrong correct me brothers, let’s be serious when you discuss democracy. Saving a country and people is first if for new chapter thank you.

You do not need to be corrected, Aba – you are stating the facts. Like you, I personally believe saving the sovereignty of our country is paramount. But we also have to gather ideas now on how to build a new nation when Isaias is now more. A country that is at peace with itself and where everyone wants to live in and return to rather than flee from en mass.
