For more than four decades one figure has towered over Eritrean life. Isaias Afwerki has ruled Eritrea with a rod of iron, just as he once led the liberation movement that successfully liberated the country in 1991.  Previously an enormous asset, he has become the chief obstacle to progress. But his rule, once all but unchallenged, is now questioned from all quarters.

“Previously an enormous asset, he has become the chief obstacle to progress. ”

    —””’—

A well written article, but the above statement is a bit difficult to understand.
When was that Iseyas was an asset ?
What about the terrible purges within the PLF/ EPLF that costed the lives of several thousands who were killed in Halewa Sewra ?
    Would please elaborate more ..?

It is a perspective from an outsider who is not Eritrean,we know us,we are the living breathing testimonies of our existence and demise and nobody can elaborate about who this sinister character is better than us,he has never been and never will be an asset to our society, look at the outcome,he dragged us back decades to the pre-colonial era of my childhood years working clandestine with the brave fedayin in the capital doing what the above picture depicts and sawing patriotic leaflets inundating the city streets, only this time against a brutal colonial dictatorship which sneaked through our backdoor, some might still have a soft spot for him and that too we understand because nobody knows us better than us.That is why the very author of the article called it the ‘Eritrean riddle’.

I agree,it is more than that ,it is a source of national epiphany,it is a weapon that cuts through a brutal authoritarian kleptocracy,it is the voice of a forgotten people somewhere in the corner of the world who are deprived of living. If you are hungry for news, tune in to CNN and….

I would like to say this with respect not just to you to all of us including myself I think we should start to not reply to people like abe and others like him because these people either they are PUPPETS Of HGDEF and/or they are lost due to their identity, they are doing it out of desperation. So, throwing words back and forward with them is actually wasting time for us now. We have things to do, they don’t..

Have a good day my brother
