Eritrea’s Afwerki Asks to Meet SC, Sanctions Proponents Want In, Rice in Mix?

By Matthew Russell Lee, Exclusive

UNITED NATIONS, October 27 — As the push for additional sanctions against Eritrea gathers strength in the UN Security Council, Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki has asked to come and personally speak to the Council, Inner City Press was told Thursday by a Council Permanent Representative and the Deputy Permanent Representative of a Permanent Five member.

Both said there might be problems, in that other heads of state of neighboring countries, including Ethiopia and Djibouti, might then also want to address the Council. This happened earlier this year, at the foreign minister level, in a meeting in the UN’s North Lawn building exclusively reported by Inner City Press. (Click here for Inner City Press interview with Afwerki’s adviser Yemane.)

Thursday Inner City Press observed diplomats from Ethiopia and Djibouti going into the Security Council, followed shortly thereafter by US Ambassador Susan Rice. When Inner City Press asked, it was told “bilaterals,” not a Council meeting. More like “multi-laterals” or “Horn-wide,” said one wag.

Afwerki & Ban Ki-moon, new sanctions and impacts not shown African Union sources tells Inner City Press that “the neighbors” want harsher sanctions on Eritrea than the rest of the African Union can live with. Susan Rice and the US, they say, seems to be siding with “the neighbors.”

One AU source bemoaned, “The Ethiopians and Eritreans, their leaders, they are related… This whole thing, it is a great pain to us.” Another noted, “It is better to talk than fight.”

Inner City Press needs to give its reporters “refresher courses” in English, or hire real Journalists whose English is their first language. Every time I read a report from Inner City press I feel as though I was reading “shabait’s” press releases. Grammatical errors, lack of coherence, and dangling modifiers, and awkward sentences are all over the report. Take a look , for instance , at the following statements.

1.When Inner City Press asked, it was told “bilaterals,” not a Council meeting.
2.Afwerki & Ban Ki-moon, new sanctions and impacts not shown African Union sources tells Inner City Press that “the neighbors” want harsher sanctions on Eritrea than the rest of the African Union can live with.
3.Both said there might be problems, in that other heads of state of neighboring countries, including Ethiopia and Djibouti, might then also want to address the Council.

I am not “englizawi”; however, if I can easily pick out the errors, imagine how confused “englizawian” would be at figuring out what the reporter is talking about. The report looks more like a college student’s paper. 🙂 I don’t have nothing against those bright college students.

One thing which is good about the Inner City is its “tihizito” in its report.

      OK Mr. English Expert!
So you are claiming your English is better than college students !

      • Haqqi Nezareb October 28, 2011

Trying to snatch his job, Mr. Expert. Just focus on the message not on the writer.

    Tsehaye,
Like most PFDJista’s Mr. Tsehaye is in a computation mode with the weyane’s. It is really hard to compare and contrast the Weyane of 2011 with your Shaebia of the 90th. Time has immensely changed and you want display yourself as a patriotic Eritrean with a sound judgment when you can’t differentiate what is going all.
Please don’t defend the undependable Sorry the sanction is ON. And Eritrean public is saying YES.

You never listened to your companions,
    never listened to elders,
    never listened to youngsters,

    never listened to journalists,
    never listened to religious leaders
and never listened to other state leaders.
Actually to put them in unknown prisons
or you ridiculed and insulted them.
Now, at the last hour why they have to listen to you?

Do not worry about Issias we will prosecute the Tyrant in ICC, he has blood of thousands of Eritreans in his hand, all his accomplice will also face justice. We should not worry about sanction but bringing this guy in to court. He made disappear thousands in the 21st century,we Eritreans are not cruel like him we don’t drag his body in Godana harenet, or put his body in Markato fish shop, but he will be buried in deep Somalia sea where he will be eaten up by sharks.

I know if u guys know where he is buried you guys make it Negdit or Haji, I know the bind supporters are worshiping the tyrant like goddess.Had u believe in God u would have said about his deeds against heroines and Heros of Eritrea.

    • Maazza October 29, 2011

Abdi, Cawords is it in the English language?? With foul-mouthed people like you on their knees for him, DIA is condemned to lose! You can’t even spell cowards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only two things you know how to do are: (1) hurling filthy language and (2) crawling in your belly for DIA. I can not fathom how a sane person could say what you post ‘like it or not PIA will be in power forever.’ when it is evident that a lot of Eritreans want him out since yesterday. ya mejnun.

  • sol October 28, 2011

Mr. president, time is running against u, Ghadafi give his last UN speech so u do.Listen to your friend Bisher, he told u upfront, u will be next.Beshire never said bad thing in front of Issias, because, he scared of the mad dog but now he is telling him publicly I will never forget nor forgive your past deed.

Now the game is not about sanction but putting your name in ICC, at least Beshire has friends in the horn then we start the fight from inside.I hope u determine to die there but I am sorry for your accomplice as they gone drink bitter truth, at that time u do not blame Nessu. Tsehaye and Facts

No wonder that this time around the sadistic woyane is shown for what it is worth. During the first Sanction, Meles was hiding behind ‘African Initiative’ when they rammed through IGAD and AU Peace and Security council which were both chaired by him. Now, it seems they are doing the foot work by themselves with their sadistic nature open for everyone to see. Their intent is to provoke international conflict on Eritrea by having the mining companies be suspended and hence leaving them to try other means to recoup their assets. Luckily, this time around it is highly favorable for Eritrea and no one wants to entertain it at the UNSC, as it hasn’t been discussed at that level. Read between the lines with the wordings of association with Ethiopia.

    • Haqqi Nezareb October 28, 2011

      Kozami,
What it is wrong with the Rat Of Nakfa aka Issaia these days. Read the following:

According to the latest edition of “The Indian Ocean News Letter”, it has the following article:
      ERITREA
      Asmara
President Issayas Afeworki is believed to be in regular contact with his sworn enemy, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. At least according to stories leaked from sources close to the Eritrean Head of State for some time, although it is unclear what they have in mind. According to them, secret private conversations have been held between the two men for several months via secured telephone links and even via the Skype internet communication system. The Italian authorities are even believed to have offered to host a secret meeting between the two leaders on their territory. Wait and see!

How would Zombies of Issais take this news?

    • sol October 28, 2011

I am sure Issias is ready to negotiate even at the cost of sea access if he will be left untouched.Issias is doing everything once he see his friend humiliated by the West, and even Al Beshire is telling him openly. But Meles is the most crocked person will negotiate and bury him once he get what hw want.

Ms hawey Tsehaye dea ketenaquteni delikha ember anta tekal (kidding!) you know my take on it damn well. PIA is in charge and leading the country, so he does what he sees fit. He is a patriot not a sellout. If you want to touch his street creds, you will have to get up really early!

      • Haqqi Nezareb October 28, 2011

        Kozami,
You mean he has to talk on Badme, Assab etc with his master Ato Melles. I hope he meets the precondition Melles puts for the demarcation. If that is the case, it is a great news for the Eritrean people, because we can focus:
        1. implementing the constitution
        2. free ” The Lions of Nakfa” from EraEro and other prison camps
        3. hold election as soon as possible
        4. bring criminals who have blood in their hand to justice

On Issaias, he is a full blown sellout dictator. I see his regime is cracking wide. More cracking to follow soon.

    • Tsahaye October 28, 2011

      Haqqi Nezareb,

One of the things that I have always blamed the Eritrean regime is that it doesn’t know how to play international politics. The old adage, “nAlem bsiyasa (politics) nkuUso bmosa” is till valid. Politics is a game, and if Issaya Afewerki and the woyane strong man are meeting in secrecy for the purpose of peace and stability between the two sisterly nations, I am all for it. If the news is true, I am wondering what would happen to the traitors. They need to start searching for an alternative refuge.

FYI, I have never advocated against peaceful coexistence between the two countries. What I have always said is international laws and norms should be respect without “ifs or buts”. The barbaric woyane regime has to allow the demarcation of the border between the two countries according to the final and binding verdict which is the only concrete foundation for lasting peace. If some people oppose this fundamental principle, they don’t have any credibility to accuse the PFDJ regime for violating any other laws. I am glad Kozami and I have a common understanding on many issues and what is best for Eritrea.

      • Tsahaye October 28, 2011

        “… be respect…” should be read as “….be respected…”

      • Shawel October 28, 2011

it is to late for your muster DIA his got blood in his hands,so he has to be prosecuted in the courts.
there is no immunity for a dictator with out elections or constitution.
we are happy for peace with Ethiopia but your muster will be prosecuted as well as HGDEF and Komaro like you.
the people of Eritrea are not a camel to be towed by one man !!

      • Haqqi Nezareb October 28, 2011

        Tsehaye and Kozami,

If the article in the Indian Ocean News Letter is true, I will say “Two-Yummy” gifts are in the offing for Melles:
        (I) for Issais to drop his claim on Asseb port
(II) to give Badme back to Ethiopia despite the ruling of the Boundary Commission

To squeeze more in the future deal and to probe the ego of Issais, Melles should put the following new preconditions:

        (I) release all prisoners, especially the G-15
(II) for Issais to come to Addis to wash the hands and feet of Melles and his family
(III) to transfer some money from Issais’s account to Melles’s account
(IV) to reduce the Eritrean forces by 80%, so that most of Warsay’s will go home
        (V) to put time table for the election

I am quite sure Issais will meet his master’s precondition because has the tendency of succumbing whenever his power is threatened. He did many times in his life, especially since 1998. He also understands well “the lethal force” south of us.

When all the above precondition are met by Issais, his Zombies will say “ Anbessa Wedi Afom”.

        • kozami October 28, 2011

          haqqi N

I think one of your requests above (II) could be impossible to meet. As far as I know, one of Meles’ brothers (Amanuel, if I remember correctly) only has one foot. You need to rephrase your wish list to read ‘feet/foot as may be applicable’ before going for printing.

          • Haqqi Nezareb October 28, 2011

            Kozami,

I am glad you agreed on most of the preconditions listed above.

Entay de adi dehan do adi? nemegemeria gzie nsemamae alona. Temsgen tzhlu mtehagose neyru. Tsehaye tray keyarqi.

          • Maazza October 29, 2011

            Kozami,

            How low can you go?

        • Tsahaye October 28, 2011

          Haqqi Nezareb,

For a while you were getting better at defending the atrocious woyane regime and becoming at times entertaining, but now you seem to be running out of gasoline. With the exception of (I) in the first paragraph, most of the points you raised are nothing more than hatef-tef. The reason why I say the first one does make sense is because Meles had tried to get Asseb by force in the seven days battle during the border war. The guy still wants Aseb so badly and this is the reason why he is asking for the renegotiation of the border. It is also the view of many former woyane members such as Siye and Gebru Asrat who have openly advocated for getting Aseb back to Ethiopia by any means.

As a trusted member of the woyane clique, I suspect that you may have an insider’s information. One thing you and I are certain is that to think Isayas who had spent most of his youthful age fighting for the liberation of his country would simply give away Aseb is to think the Afar region which is cracking to create an ocean in a million years from now is going to be formed next year and offer Ethiopia its own access to the sea. That is why woyane’s boss is searching for other alternatives to accelerate the acquisition of aseb to his domain by creating countless tribal warlords, religious extremists and secessionists in order to weaken Eritrea faster and get Aseb sooner than wait for the predicted ocean in the making.

          • Haqqi Nezareb October 29, 2011

            Tsehaye,

Don’t be mad. I am just telling you the truth. Your man (the tyrant) is known for succumbing under pressure. For example:
            1. during the second offensive, when the Eritrean force was routed, he made midnight call to Kofi Annan to tell him the acceptance the peace proposal which he rejected days earlier,
            2. during the third offensive, after another routing, he agreed to withdraw from key areas living its citizens under danger: Zalambesa & Bori fronts
            3. thanks the commander of the Asseb front, despite the order of Issais to evacute Asseb, he saved Asseb from Woyanie
            4. we saw the recent letter by Issais addressed to President Obama begging meet him for a meeting
            5. many other beggings to Banki-Moon

You see your guy doen’t care about Eritrea and its people, only cares about his power. When ever that power is threatened he succumbs right away. What is trying to do by talking with Melles to save him from dying like Gaddafi in a rat hole.
Bottom line: Issais is a coward ruthless dictator and will do anything to save his power at the expensive of the Eritrean people. Hiji do yehaysh sheraerae. Woynie kea dekas keliomo alewu neyaka.
Don’t worry Eritrea will be ok after the demise of the evil regime of Issais. Mark my words.

          • Haqqi Nezareb October 29, 2011

            Tsehaye,
You used the phrase “As a trusted member of the woyane clique” when addressing me. As a trusted member of the Eritrean-Woyanie clique of Issais , please tell us what is going on with Issais? What is this private talk of Issais and his cousin Melles all about? Do you have any information to share?

          • Tsahaye October 29, 2011

            Haqqi Nezareb,

I am not “mad”. I was just giving a rebutal to your comment that did not seem to be becoming from an adult man let alone from a “self aclaimed chemist”. I guess politics is a field which is not meant for everyone. You better stick to what you do best: the atoms and molecules. (Kidding)

          • Haqqi Nezareb October 29, 2011

You absolutely right I am not a savvy politician, but a “politician driven by common sense”. My common sense tells me the following:
            1. Eritrea is changed into a big prison
            2. Eritrean does not have constitution
            3. Eritrea has become one of the failed countries in the world
            4. It has a dictator leader set out to destroy the country with vengeance
            5. It’s young population is leaving the country in droves, depleting the future man power
            6. The economy of the country is collapsing, and the list goes on.
Tsehaye, these are the things that are happening in your backyard. Can you understand these conditions with open mind instead of clouding yourself with hatred of Woyanie.

  • Michael Mengistab October 28, 2011

As long as this eritrean dictator is in power there will not be any peace not only in eritrea but also in the whole horn of Africa. So if the African coutries want to have peace, they must be able to remove this dictator by any means.
Since Isayas is a criminal, he could not solve any issue in a peaceful way his language is force and must be removed by force. And the eritrean people should get some kind of help like in the case ofthe libian people to remove this guy.

    • Shawel October 28, 2011

he kill Eritrean youth with shoot to kill policy for crossing the border, shot the disable Eritrean heroes in 1993 for asking a better treatment.
he arrest and kills any one for different political opinion or freedom of expression and never respect for religious beliefs, so how can the komaro even call this a president, he is a barbaric mad dog in mead-day sun looking to have a bite of any Eritrean on his path to power.
