Eritrea’s Zersenay Tadese and Mestawet Tufa of Ethiopia yesterday set new times in road race at the Gifu Seiryu Half Marathon in Japan.

Tadese upgraded Kenyan marathoner, Martin Mathathi’s record that has been in the archives for two years now as the Eritrean clocked 1:00:31 to hit the podium while the lady from Ethiopia, Tufa put up a stellar performance to break South African, Rene Kalmer’s one year-old record by a full three minutes.

Last edition’s winner, Martin Mathathi (1:00:54), occupied the second spot as he ran 24 seconds short of Zersenay Tadese’s time while two of his compatriots, Jacob Wanjuki (1:01:53) and  Cyrus Njui (1:01 :08) came third and fourth respectively.

In the ladies, long distance runner and runner up at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2008, Mestawet Tufa came six seconds earlier than second placed Eunice Jepkirui of Kenya.

Glad to see a first sport news about Eritreans after ignoring all the hot cycling events of Eritreans.
Wait wait.. you just post this because you cannot jump the news for the Ethiopian lady weyzero Mestawet Tufa of Ethiopia! It was not intended for zeriesenay … I new it.

you were roaring about Ethiopia being in the African cup of nations mean while you didn’t dare to not put a single statement about Eritrean cyclists for being the African champions during the same time. “Daniel teklehaimanot to be African sports of the year”, Natnael berhane to be the first black cyclist to win in a pro race. And recently about zeriesenay to be world half marathon champion!

      Robel,

Did your master Isaias, the fat ass guide you to be stupid?

      • ahmed saleh May 21, 2013

I go first for Eritrean then to ETHIOPIAN , SOMALIAN , SUDANESE and other Africans . Otherwise
anybody who have issues , that is his own problem to deal with it .

        • ahmed saleh May 21, 2013

It is a recent memory of Olympics in Britain how Eritreans and Ethiopian athletics showed common
support and love to each other in that strange land . No wonder some arrogant might get furious
          out their stupidity .

Your dream is if there is ethiopia and Eritrea in one sentence then it has to be war or anything to that effect.

You think it is a blessing that we use Our time on war and dictatorship instead of art and sport. It is a curse that we must fight against to stop peopl like you from both sides.

If it were not People like you, it was not missial we are exchanging but zere snay is running in addis or tedy afor sininging in Asmara stadium. If it is not for People like you that the tplf bishop blessing woyane while the eplf bishop blessing shabia. This is for you what you Call ethiopia and Eritrea.

      • robel May 24, 2013

        Ato Tamrat

So are you trying to tell me We are the same, No NO we are not Eritrea has 5 million people and bordered by Sudan, RED SEA, Djibouti and unfortunately Ethiopia.
I don’t want any war because i paid for it probably while u were just hearing it in news. I know the cost of it, As much as i hate the politics in East Africa. I love my country so do all real Eritreans. And don’t tell me Shabait and weya.. create the difference back off, Eritrea was Eritrea since the colonization, Shabia just leads the people of Eritrea to fight your barbarian ancestors to through them away from the BLESSED COUNTRY. I salute our brothers and sisters who give their blood for that.
So go and read some history.

      Hi Robel,

First time I read the title I did not notice the part about the Ethiopian lady and thought, good news about Eritrea? Here in “Anatsuu Nay Woyanie’s” land? No way! – What is the catch?
Aha, here it is – Indeed there was a catch –
      – First, they cannot pass promoting their masters (Typical character of an inferior or a subordinate, who would never put his own first)
      – Second they have to put Eritrea and Ethiopia together! (They have to justify their picnic to Awassa, Debrezeit, Mekele – and all the Kitffo they share).
“Mestawet Tufa of Ethiopia, brought Eritrea’s Zersenay Tadese to demo.archive.assenna.com” would be the correct interpretation of news….

    • TwoWayStreet May 24, 2013

……….but I see a picture of Zeresenay holding The Eritrean Flag, doing his victory lap, not the Ethiopian lady that you are talking about…….

Robel and others pls wake up, This is a sports news.
I am sure if the lady was not Etiopian you would still criticize assena, just by writing your first sentence.

    Robel
you nailed it, sorry to say that, but the reality is most of the opposition websites can not tell the different between the government and the poeple.that is why the majority eritreans do not trust them.
all they do is just picking negative news.

    • robel May 24, 2013

      Mensa
That’s true and that is what annoys me, I some times visit this website.
They don’t miss any sport news about Ethiopia, but they never bring about eritrea. Some here they claim Ethiopia is our neighbor so there is no problem if they post news about them well i don’t have problem with it. But what about the other neighbors?
The funny thing is Zeriesenay won world halfmarathon championship which is bigger than this news just before a week, but they didn’t bring it. I am sure they would, had it been won by Ethiopian.
Well i feel bad for the real Eritreans that they think they r opposing for good of their people.

  • NEW HOPE ERITREA May 21, 2013

      Newhope, aka hopless Ethiopian
      GO AWAY please LOL,
your cover is out you have been identified, be proud of who you are.
you see The dictator Isays because he is not proud of his identity everbody is suffering, well Eritreans are suffering more. Good luck to you.

  • Dawit May 21, 2013

    To Robel,

Please grow up! What do you want the opposition do other than pick up the evil deeds of the government which is harassing people on the daily basis.

In regard to the sports, as far as I know the opposition website have been trying to bring us any information they could possibly get. The opposition are not in a position to know what cycling or other sports programmes are. Thus I do not blame them for not telling us very bits and pieces of information regarding Sports.

Your comment that the opposition are not trust worthy is really rubbish. Again grow up!

      Robel and Friends,
……….but I see a picture of Zeresenay holding The Eritrean Flag, doing his victory lap, not the Ethiopian lady that you are talking about…….

Robel and others pls wake up, This is a sports news.

      • robel May 24, 2013

Zeriesenay just won a world half marathon and broke a record a week before, Nathanael berhane was in all over the sports news for his unbelievable win in tour of turkey. No news of those in this website. My friend i am Eritrean and real fun of eritrean athletes so i feel bad when i don’t see any news in the supposed Eritrean website ( no matter opposition or supporting), Instead they prefer to post the news of our noisy southern neighbors.

    • robel May 24, 2013

Well Brother Dawit if you are telling me to think the same way as you do, it’s growing down not up!
I don’t have problem if they never talk about any sport. But if they open thier thier mouth about sport and claim it’s Eritrean website, i would love to see Eritrean sport news instead of our noisy southern neighbors sport news!

  • jgna May 21, 2013

    do not woory,
Ethiopia has many internationally known sportsmen and women. It is Ethiopia and kenya that are leading africa in athletics especially running.
recently Tigray is contributing internationally femous runners like Hagos Gebrehiwot, Abeba Aregawi and cyclists like Mehari dori.
so people do not surprise yourself with occassional things ….
think realistically and also rationaly. sport is sport not politics. There is nothing wrong in reprting all successful athlets irrespective of their origin

    • Tamrat Tamrat May 21, 2013

Woyane, you say sport is not politics and you separate as usual tigray from Ethiopia. For 22 years you make oromia starving and now you found two tigre athlet after centuries. One of them allredy is contributing internaionaly by marying swidish. Lousy woyane.

      • jgna May 23, 2013

Hopeless desperate G7 (Remains of Derg. You are always everywhere in all wesites. You have no job, livong on walfare.
I know you very well, idiot, defeated shamless DERG.

  • robel May 24, 2013

Pls pls pls Guys Go to all the old news of this website u will never find a news of incredible winners of African champions in cycling, even not the half marathon championship of recent time in check. But only this news because it has some news about Ethiopia with it. Or they want to show we are one, NO NO we are not, I can cheer on their win as my neighbors, same as for Sudan or Djibouti.., But IN NO time will i cheer them as for my fellow Eritreans.
I don’t have problem that they oppose Isayas as i don’t support him also( off-course i don’t oppose in social media also b/c i would not leave my kalashin and go out if i had aim to oppose), but sport is not Isayas. If you tell me we don’t support them because they still represent erirea under Isayas, Wake up Isayas will go one day but Eritrea and real eritreans will remain. So please differentiate b/n the people and Isayas. then we will support this website as Eritrean website.
    Happy independence day !

    • idris May 25, 2013

      ‘Happy’ slavery day, MAY 24.
And welcome to the BANDALAND which is led by f***cken hamAAAASSSSien

  • Berhe May 25, 2013

Robel….Have you ever thought what will happen to Eritreans if Isayas dies tonight?…Assena is warning you Eritrea will be another Somalia because we are already divided by Isayas…Instead of supporting the Devil with out questioning him, look things with ur own mind and remember those who are opposing the Devil in Asmara are those who made Eritrea to be Eritrea and Remeber History is Mercyless.

  • robel May 26, 2013

Berhe , I don’t support the way Isayas handles Eritreans at all. I have some sympathy for his rigid foreign policy though. IF you think Eritre will be somalia after Isayas that is your ill wish, u don’t know the Eritrean people then. Assenna host nation doesn’t win on such ill wish ( Ethnicall division ) during colonization, nor will Ethiopia or others.
And thank you for your warning but nothing will happen after isayas he normal person not GOD as you think!
