HERE AND THERE

Dedicated to the struggle of the Eritrean youth for freedom from slavery

by Fetsum Abraham 2/26/13

Correction: I have learned from concerned Eritreans that I made a mistake in my last two articles writing (Brigadier Colonel Sied Ali Hjay (Wedi Ali)). There is nothing as “Brigadier Colonel” in the army and I am sorry for the mistake and thank you. But do you think I was also in a tranquilized state of mind (like someone I know back home) in this situation?

DUALITY

Existence swings like a pendulum

Peace confronts a crime; and dignity, a shame

Yesterday dies for this day to be born

Tomorrow shows up for today to pass on

One chases remedy forever; by denying the error

Nothing exists without a dual pair; no concept of joy without despair

No democracy without dictatorship

Expect no bliss without hardship

No freedom without betrayal, no truth without denial

But life is slipping away through ‘justice without trial’

Like nothing without Mother-Earth; no life, with no death

What is the purpose of your existence, if you don’t stand for the truth?

One’s you become, you got to live it out

Standing for the cause rather than your pride

Like for each success there is a mess..

For every sorrow, happiness;

Every trap has an exit; and darkness, a light

Stick to the fight, no matter how tight

Collapse to rise, feel sad to rejoice

This crisis is a chance, to change your existence

Challenge it as it comes, you ‘ain’t got no’ choice

Quote of the moment: The way ego inflates a weak person’s self-perception is like a kid deflating a balloon at the end of the game.

From the forum

I read some brothers and sisters persisting on ACTION rather than wasting time on writing. My first question: what action and who shall do it? The “someone has to do it and get it over with” is a terrible theory that only reflects a shallow understanding of life. It backfires putting the subject in the position of that ‘someone’. Why should someone do it for you; sacrifice for your freedom in Eritrea? Why do not you do it yourself? This is double standard and selfish in my opinion. The finger that pulls the anticipated trigger does not only have to come from Eritrea but from anywhere in the world as well: It takes one day to fly from the States to, or drive from NaQfa to Asmara; I close my case.

My next question: is not communicating through this platform an ACTION? You need to remember that we built Afwerki’s cult to the point he could do anything he wanted to do to the society. It took a very long time for us to peacefully confront him on the merit, though we knew something was terribly wrong in our country since a while ago. We gave fear, peace, obedience, respect, patience, manipulation, deception, endless excuses, humiliation and hope a chance silently accepting the anarchic whipping of Afwerkism for this long.

The fact remains that the amount of trust we gave him had to naturally come down to the ground first before the momentum could shift in favor of the resistance. This equilibrium has been reached as a result of betrayal, endless suffering and awareness, currently overpowering the opposite pair in the duality (blind supporters or Afwerkists).

I congratulate you all for this achievement!

The debris accumulated in the downfall of Afwerki’s cult, however, need to be cleaned today through dialogue, education, debate, solid united front absent pretension, fear, HASADNET, greed, opportunism and power struggle.

What is apparent is that the FORTO incident could not have originated from the top-rank of the army since members of this class can afford to live well in the country. The dissatisfaction-induced pressure must have started at the bottom level of the army stratum (the oppressed soldiers), where the dirty job is performed with very little money or unquestionable labor-camp slavery. The main actors; the upper class members of the army then felt the heat and exploded it at FORTO. This is the reason why Afwerki cannot defuse the movement permanently; this is not something you stop by eliminating the leaders of the FORTO uprising; specially considering that there were other army units in the deal as well, that did not make it there as planed. This tells me that the entire army is aware of the problem and alert to bring change at the right time.

The time of course has arrived as witnessed in FORTO, though it may not have gone the way it was anticipated. This experience will make it better next time. Don’t feel disappointed by this; rather get motivated to enjoy the show with confidence that the suffering of the people will stop one day soon, while taking advantage of the stalemate to learn the process by which DEMOCRACY will be reduced to practice in next Eritrea

This is the best time for the youth to involve and focus forward. The success is just around the corner and it is yours already. You know that no one can run the country worse than Afwerki but are you ready to reconstruct the society in a civilized fashion from now on?

Dear family; Things are going in favor of the RESISTANCE but no Rome was built in one day and no reason to be desperate. There is a homework we have to do individually in order for civilized leaders to evolve out of the process. Please participate without expectation for every individual is equally responsible in this challenge. Chill, relax, do your part and enjoy the flow without emotional distress. The hardest part was to get here; the rest is down the hill. This is the time for us to get mentally ready for the next challenge so that no other Eritrean will anymore manipulate the society the way the last two home grown sold-outs did (Tedla Uqbit and Issaias Afwerki).

You need to watch out for sneaking opportunists who can steal your freedom again, through participation. Emotion and impatience won’t hit the mark, only reason and time do. Keep your optimism reasonably intact, but don’t expect things in a hurry and from others. Believe it or not things cannot go on this way indefinitely and the natural development of our crisis will take care of the rest. Remember that you are throwing a brick away from the debris of Afwerkism in this final cleaning process through your input: exchanging ideas is as good as pulling the trigger!

Enjoy tour moment!

    SO WHAT IS UP

  • Aman February 27, 2013

Exchanging ideas over the net or radio in which barely 10% of the Eritrean population follow can never be as good as pulling the trigger.
One can’t make omelet with out breaking a couple of eggs. There must be a sacrifice at some point if a real change is to take effect in Eritrea. Do you know what the major four questions asked are whenever/wherever a meeting is called in the army? 1. hixret mesharg alo 2. memakrti slemintay akarixu 3. ketef yimexana yelen 4. menkesakesi kiwehabekum tebahilna sigab hji ftah ayrekebnan …
I did not mean to belittle the army’s intellectual capabilities but to show the level or extent of damage the hgdef leadership done to the majority. You will think the way they (the butchers) want you to think and you always ask the obvious – they (the buchers) know the questions and of course the answers. If you think otherwise, then you are a minority or you have already started your way to Sudan or Ethiopia in search of your freedom – never to hear the question and answer sessions ever again.
There are some brave youngsters out there who could give their lives to exterminate the criminal organization from its root and give a sigh of relief to long suffering, peace loving Eritrean people.
I will tell you one very reason why this is not happening or not happening soon.
    1. people who suffer under the butchers
    2. people whose children are murdered by the criminal organization
    3. people whose siblings and relatives are imprisoned by hgdef ‘gestapo’
    4. people who fear for their lives and escaped the system risking their lives
One will expect these people if not join but at least support a resistance movement. Instead, to everyones surprise, these same people are the first to dance to the bits of hgdef songs.
Now somebody tell me why one brave youngster has to waste his precious life to such unusual, cowardice personalities.
”What action and who shall do it?” was your question. Who? In a normal situation the answer should be simple. There should be thousands who should volunteer as front runners for an apparent reason. What action? Two eyes for an eye – it may not has to go that far but …it should be done.

      Dude,

Let us disect what you said above and try to shade some light here so that, you and others may start to use their, head for once.
      You stated one fact :
“……One will expect these people if not join but at least support a resistance movement. Instead, to everyones surprise, these same people are the first to dance to the bits of hgdef songs…….”

      – Doesn’t that tell you, may be you got it all wrong?
      – I mean, doesn’t that tell you that, may be the Eritrean people love HGDF?
      – Isn’t everything about the majority?
      – Doesn’t that tell you, may be you need to shift geers and join your people?
      – Doesn’t that tell you may be HGDF is doing something good
      – Doesn’t that mean that you are advocating CHANGE AGAINST YOUR PEOPLE?

SURE, ERITREA HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO: ECONOMICALLY POLITICALLY AND ALL.

WHAT ALL OF YOU NEED TO DO IS THIS: ” JOIN YOUR PEOPLE AND YOUR GOVERNMENT, WORK HAND IN HAND IN DEFENDING YOUR COUNTRY AND PROTECTING ITS SOVEREIGNITY – PROTECTING ITS UNITY, AT THE SAME TIME WORK HARD FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – AND ALSO, DEMAND REFORMS, FEW CHANGES AMAENDMENTSA- AND GRADUALLY WORK IN DEVELOPING THE POLITICAL ASPECT AS WELL”

THAT IS THE ONLY WAY – IF YOU LOVE ERITREA, THAT IS

You remind me of the fable known as the bell , the cat and the mice in counsel.

The mice in counsel wanted to know when the cat would come to devour them one by one as they roam around the house looking for cheese. Needless to say, how would they know a cat is coming to attack the mice? The answer the mice in counsel came up with is by tying a bell around the cat’s neck.

The mice could avoid being caught by the cat upon hearing the bell so the mice thought. The big question , however , is this: who among the mice would dare put on the necklace with its bell around the neck of the mouse

  • rora eskindir February 27, 2013

there is time to learn and time to put in practice what you have learned. Eritreans fought for 30 years. so we know a lot about fighting. but defeating the Dergue did not translate into the independence we badly needed. why? because all we were allowed to use during the struggle were the guns the bullets. we were allowed to fall for our people but we were forbidden to ask questions. our brothers and sisters, fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles…were fighting the Dergue and suffering under the brutality of eseyas at the same time. in the mean time eseyas was sitting around reading books. and we know now who lost out.

    • Amam February 27, 2013

Don’t you think that you don’t have to wait the right time to ask questions? Don’t you think the victim’s families should come up front and throw the first questions if not punish? It is like the victim are waiting for Wuchu or Ali or ….. to come up with an answer. People need a cause and and a possible victory to die for.

  • seb February 27, 2013

    Dude,

For one, you are writing your nonsense here too frequently. Take a break. Relax. We know your brain is exhausted, and all it manages to come up is – blanks.

About this change and all the jazz you fools are dreaming about, I think, at some point, you need to come down to mother earth. I mean, you fools are flying so high, trying to magnify this forto staff up to the sky. Get, this: if the Eritrean people want change, they will get change. But, right now, you fools are trying to staff it down our threat

    Give it up

  • Zeray February 27, 2013

    Dear Fetsum,

I never miss your writing, I think they are thought provoking and excellent. I would like to say I am one of those who advocates Action. I have seen too much political arguments and every one seems to talk and does nothing to contribute even a tiny bit to the movement of change. The writer writes, that is action. I participated in contacting some Jews activists to convince Israel to be pro Eritrean refugees. Others who are bold have sacrificed by becoming part of the Forto movement. The small or huge things that each Eritrean do to expose this regime becomes a process for lasting change. Our youth’s movements seem to advocate more action and less talk. I think this is good. What do you think?

    • fetsum abraham February 27, 2013

      My dear zerai;
Every one of us want action but the problem is I can not ask any Eritrean to do it for me while I can do it equally. My life is not better than any other eritrean’s. ACTION is the responsibility of each individual Eritrean. Till someone does it by choice, we need to continue communicating on our problems. The probability that one or a group will do it is there in place and welcome as well but we can not sit idle until that happens. We need to develop our mental energy at the same time. It you ask me how I would feel should someone pulls the trigger and finish it off, I would tell you that I would love it very much so. I just think asking someone to die for me is a little too selfish that I can not do as person. There are a lot of actions we can do and I will bring them forward soon probably after two more articles. Too many thins we can do easily to finish the problem but we can only do this through continuous exchange of ideas. Remember that we are also communicating without people and the leaders themselves through this media. This communication will close the gap between his officials and us the Diaspora eventually. The so called ACTION is a derivative of this effort my brother: I love u

      • Zeray February 28, 2013

        Thank you Fetsum,

I look forward to see a list of “actions” that would prompt every one of us to do something. Yes, I agree to ask someone to do that you wouldn’t do yourself would be selfish. However, in a team work situation since some are capable of doing more than others (could be due to age, health-fitness, education level, convictions etc..) suggestions on action list with a clear mandate of self-sacrifice and volunteer basis would be helpful. Otherwise, we will e stuck asking, “who will tie the bell on the Cat’s neck?

        Respectfully
