Looking back on the history of the Eritrean revolution, many educators and students after joining the ELF and EPLF saw conflicts erupt between the veterans who wanted to preserve their old identity and the new members of the Fronts who joined with high revolutionary aspirations and clear vision to see a future democratic Eritrea based upon freedom and equality. As a consequence during the armed struggle both EPLF and ELF leaders who did not want to hear about freedom and justice used violence to eliminate those who challenged them by labelling them as regionalists, ultra-leftists, spies etc Many educated fighters from both Fronts became victims of imprisonment, physical and psychological torture and execution that in no way served the Eritrean cause. According to Case and Maner (2016) when leaders think their power is threatened, they start using strategies such as threats and intimidation to protect their power.

I read your story and the many un-written chapters of our history you engraved with your courage and with your blood. Countless accomplishments of our past war are not credited to the right actors. Fighters like you that silently stood by the principles of giving freedom to your people represent – for eternity – justice, humanity and the hope of the life we live. None of your lives can be strapped in the oblivion of time.
Eritrean women cannot define courage and freedom without first reading your stories and honoring what you left us with. A certificate was denied to you Dehab? Know that each Eritrean woman with freedom and options represents the certificate YOU gave to US!
In addition, know that our future historians will restore yours’ and ALL forgotten Eritrean freedom fighters’ names in the National Martyrs’ registry. I hope to be around and see monuments dedicated to ALL Eritrean Female Freedom Fighters in Asmara and other Eritrean cities, with our kids and grand kids engraving your names as a history’ class assignment,
As the poet Naomi Shihab Nye said: “To leave your loneliness panting behind you on some street corner”…. I hope you did leave that sense of loneliness and disillusion panting behind you each time “they” tried to make you feel wrong … and “they” will live in shame.

What a tragedy, Dehab’s father the honorary Abboy Tesfazion was a great patriot in his own right. He challenged the Ethiopian Parliament by demanding that the amnesty to release political prisoners should also include Eritreans. When his motion was rejected, all members from Eritrea resigned enmasse. This triggered the closure of the Emperor’s last parliament and later the downfall and demise of the Ethiopian Imperial regime’!!!
