The U.S. Embassy has received reports of gunfire at several locations in Asmara due to protests.  The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid the downtown area where protests appear to be more prevalent.  Streets in the downtown area may be closed, and police continue to maintain a significant presence.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.  Review personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including at local events, and monitor local news for information.  Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.

    All weak oppositions against our strong government will be soon defeated and destroyed for ever, don’t dream too much beyond your capabilities. There is no internal or outside force to challenge PFDJ our peoples legal government. It defended our country against so many outside enemies like woyane and the secret CIA with their traitor agents inside and outside Eritrea. PFDJ would make some changes but would govern Eritrea for a long time.

    The people of Eritrea had been mad and very angry in the last 15 years and more, and the current one undergoing in Asmara and Hadi Halo are some of the manifestations. However, public uprising will not dismantle the well entrenched Hgdef regime.
    The number of young Eritreans who can carry out an uprising in Eritrean towns are few army deserters who spend their time hiding and the rest are all 17 years and younger. The defection of most young Eritreans abandoning Eritrea has weakened young Eritrean, this one will fizzle out in few days.
    Few years back, the best Horn African analyst Yosief Ghebrehiwet, YG, said:
    The hgdef regime can only be dismantled three ways:
    1. Natural death or an elimination of Issaias
    2. Eritrea Armed forces violent rebellion
    3. Ethiopians invading Eritrea

    The defections of young people has been good to Hgdef “as a safety valve to relive of the pressure” in Eritrea.
    The Hgdef regime is stronger than it was three years ago because of the cash infusion from the Arab world. — Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Egypt and Kuwait are pouring hundreds of millions in Hgdef’s coffers, so blame the Arabs who are supporting him more and more….

    It is the sign of times,the beginning of the end of a repressive system the world has ever known in the modern era,it is a rare sight like a torrential rain in an arid desert,it has the look and sound of 1975 only this time from within. HGDEF will try to give it a religious uprising look (intifada) and raise his crusader sword and try to decapitate it on the spot to no avail,because this time around he drew blood with all Eritreans from all walks of life and they will challenge him in unison.Devising an exit strategy would be a wise option. I wouldn’t stand around to be swept away by this fierce popular tsunami and end up somewhere in the Nile delta. Welcome back Eritrawi! where have you been all this years.

    First they came for the communists,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a communist.

    When they locked up the social democrats,
    I remained silent;
    I was not a social democrat.

    When they came for the trade unionists,
    I did not speak out;
    I was not a trade unionist.

    When they came for the Jews,
    I remained silent;
    I wasn’t a Jew.

    When they came for me,
    there was no one left to speak out.
