Reuters and AlertNet (Jerusalem) – Israel’s High Court should order an end to the government’s policy of forcibly returning to Egypt migrants who enter Israel at the Sinai border without giving them an opportunity to claim asylum, Human Rights Watch said today. Egypt has forcibly returned hundreds of migrants and asylum seekers to countries where they face torture and ill-treatment.

ETHIOPIA – Weekly forced to stop publishing, its journalists flee abroad
Reporters Without Borders condemns the climate of fear to which Ethiopia’s independent media are currently exposed. The Addis Ababa-based weekly Addis Neger suspended publication today after several of its editors fled the country in the past few days because they were afraid they would be arrested.

Reporters Without Borders condemns the climate of fear to which Ethiopia’s independent media are currently exposed. The Addis Ababa-based weekly Addis Neger suspended publication today after several of its editors fled the country in the past few days because they were afraid they would be arrested.

Forced relocation is in a way eviction or forced removal of people from their farm land or land owner ship by what ever means. The removals of large population or communities from their farm lands by their government rather than those induced by natural factors or disasters such as fires, floods, earthquakes or wars are officially sanctioned act which has many harmful consequences for the affected groups and it is usually violent and socially, economically or ethnically disastrous.

Daniel Kibrom, a journalist employed by Eritrea’s state-owned Eri TV, has been held since October 2006 in a prison camp in the south of the country, where he is serving a sentence of five years of forced labour for trying to cross the border into Ethiopia, Reporters Without Borders has learned from a former prison interrogator who fled the country a year ago.
