The Odyssey of the Desperados Eritrean youth fleeing the PFDJ’s Tyranny

During the rule of the Ethiopian DERG in Eritrea in the seventies, at least we had some shelter in the Field, either on the South West or the North and North East of the Liberated areas by both Eritrean liberation Fronts. Today as it is said in Tigrigna, “bezia ente kedkin  wedikin emotekin, bezia entekedkin dima seyti wedikin Timotekin”.  They have all the way the risk of dying in the deserts or dying in the Mediterranean Sea. All the same,  death is written on every Eritrean youth’s destiny ever since the nation called Eritrea was created by the Italian occupation army. Today, however the smell of death is stronger and pungent (see picture below).and no one with them to console them neither to comfort them in the hour of their death.

elohim elohim……………………………………..Elohim Abraham, elohim Jacob. Act 7.3 Saying, I am the Elohim of thy fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, and the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. May God lift them to heaven……………. all thy perished children of Eritrea.

Today every family has offered at least one child to the deserts of sub-Sahara or to the Mediterranean sea. However, a little earlier some fellow Eritrean Diasporas were “dancing to the beat of  Wedi Tikul  wegah tibel laity”  in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Forgetting their sense of humanity and satisfying their egos. Cry my beloved Country and while her children struggling to reach the shores desperately.

The Tragedy:

“LAMPEDUSA, Italy (AP) — Authorities were contending with choppy waters Friday in the search for dozens of migrants believed to have drowned after their rickety boat caught fire and sank off the coast of the southern Italian island of Lampedusa.

The scope of the tragedy — with 111 bodies recovered so far and many more missing — prompted outpourings of grief and demands for a comprehensive immigration policy to deal with migrants fleeing poverty and strife in Africa and the Middle East.

Pope Francis said Friday was a “day of tears” and denounced the “savage” system that drives people to leave their homes for a better life, yet doesn’t care when they die in the process.

The 66-foot (20-meter) boat was carrying migrants from Eritrea, Ghana and Somalia, the coast guard said. It started taking on water and then caught fire when someone set light to a piece of fabric to attract the attention of nearby shipping. Coast guard divers found the wreck on the sea floor, some 130 feet below the surface.

Officials say just 155 people survived of the 450 to 500 believed to have been on board.

Italian coast guard ships, fishing boats and helicopters from across the region have taken part in the search. Rescue crews hauled body bags by the dozens at Lampedusa port, lining them up under multicoloured tarps on the docks.

It was one of the deadliest accidents in the perilous crossing thousands make each year, seeking a new life in the prosperous European Union. Smugglers charge thousands of dollars a head for the journey aboard overcrowded, barely seaworthy boats that lack life vests.Hundreds of migrants reach Italy’s shores every day, particularly during the summer, when seas are usually calmer. Lampedusa, 70 miles (113 kilometres) off Tunisia and closer to Africa than the Italian mainland, has been at the centre of wave after wave of illegal immigration.” End quote

The Shock:

Lampedusa boat tragedy is ‘slaughter of innocents’ says Italian president

Italy appeals for help to deal with migrant problem after deaths of more than 100 African migrants, including three children.

“UNHCR shocked by boat tragedy off Lampedusa

Press Releases, 3 October 2013

The High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres expresses his shock at today’s boat tragedy off the Italian island of Lampedusa, which so far is reported to have claimed 82 lives.

Mr. Guterres commended the swift action taken by the Italian coast guard to save lives. At the same time, he expressed his dismay at a rising global phenomenon of migrants and people fleeing conflict or persecution and perishing at sea.

Of the estimated 500 passengers on the boat, believed to be Eritreans, only 147 have been rescued so far. The boat, which originated from Libya, caught fire half a mile from the coast.

UNHCR is actively engaging with countries in the region to provide effective alternatives for people resorting to taking these dangerous journeys so they don’t have to risk their lives.

This is the second boat disaster this week off Italy’s coast. 13 men drowned off the Southern coast of Italy on Monday when they attempted to swim ashore.

What is our reaction to this tragedy?

There is no remedy other than to remove the cause of all these tragedies and it is one of the many wake up calls to us today. At least to do some thing tangible. Eritreans in the Diaspora do we need so many deaths to come? At least let us  unite to morn the death of our so many perished youth in one week!

What a disastrous day! And what a disastrous government Eritrea has. Luckily Isias is old and he’s gonna die…. or Some brave and heroic person can also expedite the process.

Iseyas is an like a serial killer. The problem is that we have not done enough to stop him.
I am sorry to say, if he is not stopped more people will die. The whole country is at risk.
Even all those selfish elements who want make a living by doing his dirty work will not be spared, time will come also for them. We better do something before it’s too late.
I am not saying we should kill him, I am saying we should stop him from destroying our country. The moment we start working together, even by going to churches and mosques, and praying to God in a well organized way, they will know that we are serious and we have enough determination to bring change to our country. Obviously, as long as we remain divided we will pay the price of our weakness, which is more death of our young and gradual annihilation of our beloved nation.

Isn’t easier to confront the Dracula in Eritrea than to brave the harsh desert and rough sea?

for about a year and am nervous about switching to another platform.
