A tiny coffin with a teddy bear fixed poignantly to the lid is lowered into an anonymous vault – the final resting place for one of the youngest victims of Italy’s worst ever refugee tragedy.

The unknown child was among more than 300 Eritrean and Somali asylum-seekers who drowned when their fishing boat caught fire and sank last just half a mile from the island of Lampedusa on October 3.

The coffin was one of dozens buried in vaults in the small cemetery of Piano Gatta near the city of Agrigento in Sicily despitItalian Prime Minister Enrico Letta’s promise to hold a state funeral for the victims.

It seems some sort of diplomatic silent war is going on. The so-called Ambassador of Eritrea has been busy, trying to implicate African ambassadors credited to Rome, in an effort to push the Italian government to take decisions dictated by him. There were news that he managed to persuade some of the Ambassadors to accompany him to Lampedusa (dixri mai nab baati).
Shame of him and his shifta government, who after nine days of silence want show the world they have the right to speak in the name of the victims, and blame others for crimes they have committed against the people of Eritrea.

    • Wedi ngus October 16, 2013

I don’t really see anything that has the eritrean government had to do with this accident. Don’t we help our brothers and sisters scap the country . Don’t we tell them it better to get out of the country? We are killing them so let’s take responsibly . Let’s not blame the government for no reason. We know those people paying dollars to do all this and who do you think paid for them?

      • Kalighe October 16, 2013

It’s self evident that Eritreans are escaping from a hell like situation at home created by the so-called government. The regime of Mr. Iseyas is looking so ugly that even a few loose cannons who used to fill the net with ineffective propaganda for the regime are now visibly absent. Politically, the brutal junta is dead, it’s lack of properly organized uprising that has delayed the change that will remove them from the stage and throw them in dustbin.

      • TseTe October 16, 2013

Are you for real? Do you ever ask yourself why they want to leave in the first place, knowing the dangers they will face? Why are you in denial? DO YOU HAVE A CONSCIENCE?? DO YOU HAVE ANY KIDS, YOUNGSTERS? WHAT IF THEY COULDN’T STUDY FOR A CAREER, WORK SUPPORT THEMSELVES AND THIER FAMILIES? WHAT IF …THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO PLAN THE FUTURE, DREAM OF A BETTER LIFE..??? DO YOU REALLY BLAME THEM FOR LEAVING?

        • Wedi ngus October 16, 2013

Sorry my friend how can I blame anyone for leaving the country while I am living in USA but I wouldn’t help my own brothers or family members take the risky journey to Europe. If living in Eritrea didn’t work for them then at least stay safe in Sudan or even Ethiopia until you get a chance for settlement or something or if they think they had political problem then they need to fight. Nobody is going to fight for them even you my friend .you talk bullshit in paltalk doesn’t you are fighting. Let’s speak the truth but don’t think I am not sorry for the lost of life though. You asked if I have kids ? I don’t but I do have 5 brothers. And sisters in back home most of them in national service but I always tell them if they stay there I will help them but if they want to scap the country then they are on their own because I know they can’t do anything if I don’t help them.

          • Sorobeti October 16, 2013

If you don’t help them, then you have to pray day and night for them not to commit suicide like many of their comrades who lost hope on going out from the hellhole of PFDJ.
