Many of the identifying features of your site, Starting with the way you introduce your programs in shrill and nu-moderated tonal cast, “Ezi Radiokum, Radio Assenayu” are clumsy, and unattractive. The senseless sports and sundry images that you populate your site are eyesore, Of all, the Agona Gona moronic buffoonery reveals how your admirable ambition to do good for your people and Country is damaged by your tasteless and tone-def capacity to identify what is effective in information sharing. Your time, resources, and efforts are being wasted by your lack of cultural understanding and raw clueless of Eritrea’s heritage and cultural contexts. Have you ever seen Eritreans in villages, towns, and other localities such as herding their cattle behaving and acting the way your Agona Gona characters acted? I am amazed how your cultural aptitudes extremely poor and tasteless. They are identical to that of PFDJ. I know you are far different from PFDJ, I believe you are a patriot and a genuinely dedicated Eritrean, but you ape PFDJ style of communication. Please remove Agona-Gona, remove the sports images and other senseless images. When selecting plays, theatrical pieces, and songs, be true to the normal way Eritreans act and sing. Be true to the tradition and cultural contents of Eritrea. They are naturally true without exaggeration or theatrical antics that are totally different from the historical traditions of Eritrea and Eritreans. The one of Isaias laughing is a good choice, please DO NOT remove it. It reveals Isaia’s savagery and inner wickedness.

Sorry Tseggai, I would have liked if your opnion was constructive. I love assenna’s programmes. I rather feel guilty that I’m not helping!

Wowwww, you are a typical example of the Eritrean hypocrites who rush to belittle hard working, intelligent Eritreans like Amanuel Iyasu. We Eritreans have a bad habit that we only praise people when they have died. Otherwise, there is no one who deserves admiration and praise than Amanuel. You speak about Eritrean heritage and culture with ill-intentioned dirty language, but you are the one suffering from moral poverty. I for one, knowing Amanuel was in Meda at a young age I wonder when and how he was able to pick the extensive cultural knowledge of Eritrea and used it effectively to raise people’s political awareness. His expressive and incisive writing style and depth of his analysis is exceptional. He is among the rare excellent writers. To be frank with, you are the one who doesn’t have any clue about Eritrean culture and heritage. I don’t care whether you are a professor or a lay man, but I am sure you haven’t contributed 1% of what Amanuel has done to the Eritrean people. Finally, let me expose your sheer lack of intelligence. As to my understanding, Amanuel must have highlighted the Agonaye Agonay historical drama for a reason. The 100 years old story of Agonay the GAWNA, is identical to what the PFDJ is doing right now to the Eritrean people; and relates it to what happened to Yemane Monkey in Rome. This makes Amanuel clever than you ten time over. If you the poor professor can’t understand meanings beyond simple titles and representations, what can be expected from the rest of us? Tsegai Isaac, please make an effort to think a beat deep before rushing to harshly criticise good people.

It is good to hear different opinions sometimes. I like Assenna though I have some differences with some of its too intimate opinions of pro Sewra views, for both the Jebha and Shaebia kinds. I also like the mythology of the classic Gonaye Gonay story though I do not like the way it is presented, in this case I agree with Tseggai Isaac; I assume that he is the professor of Political Science.
The best solution is for Assenna to interview Professor Tseggai Issaac and lets hear him on his opinions on this and other political and cultural views. I have a lot of respect to critics like him because Eritrea is in this state of the worst condition that we had not heard them for most of the Ghedli era.

    Dear Tseggai

Mr. Amanuel Iyasu, as you said in the above statement is “a genuinely dedicated Eritrean”.
But as every one of us he has also his weaknesses. Some one who grew up in Shabiya cannot be totally free from it’s totalitarian culture. It takes time for him and for many of us to fully understand that Eritrea is different from a political organization. The aim of many of ex-Tegadelti (EPLF/ELF) is to see their organization back in control, while ordinary Eritreans want freedom and dignity, free from paternalistic attitudes of failed leaders.
Amanuel follows an editorial policy similar to that of dictatorial regimes. He could serve his people better if he understands the fact that tolerating opposing views is an essential element of press freedom and that EPLF/ELF are important but Eritrea is more important.

Believe me kalighe, you will never find a single tegadalay who respects people. Gebar is always denbar for them. Whether we like it or not we are not them, they are not us. We are immiscible. We will never share the same dream.

  • Toro August 10, 2017

Kalighe writes, “Some one who grew up in Shabiya cannot be totally free from it’s totalitarian culture. ”
This is not a Shabiya problem only; in fact, many tegadeltis who grew up in shabiya are better and critical about the past of their organization. The archives of Assenna are the best testaments. The worst hypocrites are the former members of Jebha who will never say a bad word or criticize the history Jebha and its leadership and its backward slavish political attitude, still living with a “selective outrage” mentality. Relative to many so called Eritrean opposition websites, the Assenna website and Amanuel Eyasu is the most tolerant and willing to accommodate many opposing views to shabiya, Hgdef and several highland dominated groups. Show me a single website dominated by ex Jebhas writing against Jebha atrocities, or Jihadi narrow minded groups and sectarian movements. None!
Amanuel Eyasu is brave enough to oppose his own former organization and lead the fight against it. The problem in Eritrean politics is, Eritrea does not have many Amanuel Eyasus.

“The worst hypocrites are the former members of Jebha who will never say a bad word or criticize the history Jebha and its leadership and its backward slavish political attitude, still living with a “selective outrage” mentality. ”

      Dear Toro (Bull )

I agree that now “many tegadeltis who grew up in shabiya are better and critical about the past of their organization. “. But they woke up only recently, after defending for 40 plus years a monster they had chose to be their god. Their silence for decades (with the exception of heroes of Menka) has resulted in what is Eritrea today, a country where a entire new generation is lost either in unnecessary wars, or in the process of creating a kingdom in the name of Shabiya.
As for the stupid leadership of ELF, although they had their share of crimes of Ghedli, they were not terrorizing anyone who dares to express an opinion about them.
They just could not do that because Tegadelti would not allow them to do so.
The crimes of EPLF leadership and similar crimes by ELF leaders, were openly discussed and openly talked about in the years the ELF was in Meda. That is why now you don’t hear much about it.
Both EPLF and ELF have done their best, but their ideology does not suit the times we are living in. Any attempt to restore their rule is waste of time, as well as damaging, and any effort in that direction should not be tolerated.

    • Yonas K August 11, 2017

Toro: You are a true witness. Amanuel’s tolerance of differences of opinions is written right on the wall. If Amanuel had a dictatorial editorial policy we could have never seen Kalighe’s bogus claim and Tsegai’s unwarranted, harsh critique on this page. Brothers, when are we Eritreans going to tell it as it is? Pls let’s be honest. Our dishonesty is equally destroying us.

Assena is just trying to present something different to its followers / readers, even if the material is produced by pfdj .
Next time Assena is expected to present this material by changing the pfdj to Agonay and his chifra, and the afected regions such as Sefea as Eritrea.
    Iseyas equal to Agonay.
The Eritrean people in general must learn from this on how to destroy Agonay for good.
    Death to Agonay.

I wached the video 2x. The first time was hmmmm. But after i wached for the second time i was able ( i guess) to grasp its centeral message. The centeral message of the story is clear, and the actors and actress could not have done it better at their given time and space. Furthermore, i believe posting this video has nothing to do with x or y ghedili organizations /members. Unless someone has un disclosed grievance (ዝሓደረ) i for one see no issue posting this clip.
