With all Respect, Mr Dafla was competent enough to direct Eritrean Airlines. He has no what so ever prior experience to run such Business. when I heard his first interview on pal talk few months ago, I couldn’t believe of his incompetent explanation about Eritrean Airlines. One particular statement I paid attention was when he said ” ab liley manager at kab Pakistan amtsiomiley”. Basically he told us he left the country when the brought managers from Pakistan without his awareness. Had the government not did that, Mr Dafla would be there in Eritrea and support the government.
A person who doesn’t know dry and wet lease has no business to run airlines.

What part of Kibrom Dafla’s statement was not true? Which airliner are you talking about?
Whether you like it or not swallow the bitter pill of truth. Forget talking about an Eritrean Airline which was doomed from the very beginning. Through the years, the airliner was continually facing various interference and intrigues created by the regime itself. It is easy to make remarks without knowing the in and out of the history behind Eritrean airliner. I do not think you have ever been employed or worked for an office. If you did, I am sure you might have some idea what kind of administration we have in Eritrea. What was the motive behind having an airliner initially? That question is left for readers to answer and is a very clear one too.

An Airliner is a business like any other business. But, the regime used it for propaganda consumption to fool the Eritrean population feel progress is happening. At one point, the airliner was like a flag post for national pride and the rise of a nation state from the ashes of warfare. With a single plane it is hard to function at all. Like the saying goes, Eritrean Airlines turned to be a white elephant. Those who were given the responsibility to run it ane who made the utmost effort were puzzled and intrigued about it all. In the end, when it became hard to function under the given conditions the many individuals made their own personal choices by not availing their services.

It is individuals like you who are the reason why Eritrea is in such a mess. Shame on you for taking this blind stand denying facts right under your nose. Please, stop drumming the drum of ignorance by hiding behind the curtain of PFDJ or YPFDJ. Time is going to judge each of us [Eritrean] when dawn breaks! For your information it will be very soon. In your opinion, no one is in a position to have his/her say on the state of Eritrean affairs. What part of Kibrom Dafla’s statement is not true?

  • Dani November 21, 2013

    *wan not competent enough

  • Dani November 21, 2013

another full of $hit from Mr Dafla.
    1. Lufthansa has millions of Nakfa which the GEO couldn’t exchange it to Dollar
what a crap is he talking about?? Lufthansa can not have such amount of dollar since most of the Luftansa travelers to Eritrea are people who live outside Eritrea. Do these people pay in Nakfa???

    2. if Luftansa has that amount of Nakfa from 1998 and couldn’t convert that to euro or dollar, then why did they chose to continue operate until now?

please Dafla talk what you know not what you don’t know. You were incompetent from day one and still you are.

    • Sala November 21, 2013

      Dani

You are wrong. Luftanza and Egypt air have had that problem of non-convertible currency for a long time. I can cite you external source for that. Speak only if you know don’t guess.

Please,do not attempt to flood space with your uninformed thoughts and blah blah.. OK.

Eritrean residing at home has the right to purchase or pay in our local currency which is Nakfa. So, Lufthansa agent in Asmara sells ticket with Nakfa currency to the above mentioned individuals ONLY. But, those flying in to Eritrea from other departure points pay with currency of the country in point. This is a simple agreed upon mode of function. But, the problem with us is in implementing rules and sticking to binding regulation signed earlier. Agreements are open for renewal of contract since it has expiry date. But, the rule of law ‘must’ remain supreme if there is desire to function as expected.

          Luna and co.

brothers; I don’t have any personal enmity against brother Dafla but all he was saying was full of baloney that doesn’t add up.
If we are going to debate about the importance of an airlines in Eritrea, it might take us the whole year with out come to point.
Let me paste cap. Asress Araya’s statement in 2003
Progress Report by Captain Asress Araia
To all friends and supporters of Eritrean Airlines.

To day the last detail of the contract was ironed out and agreed upon. The Airplane is in the state of being prepared- and the provisioning of essential parts and equipments is being handled. We are embarking on this daunting task at a time when most Airlines are facing financial challenges that are threatening their very existence, therefore it legitimate to ask whether the timing for the start of this airline makes sense. All of us in Eritrean Airlines believe that the timing is not only right but also opportunistic. The project is starting with the basic must have elements- the demand ( the market), the ability to foster the growth of the market- and the availability of key personnel with Technical and other Aviation Expertise. Over the last fifty Years many Eritreans have worked in the Airline industry and have been part of its growth and survival. Many of these experts are still active in Aviation and as the operation grows they will be part of this nascent Airline. The Market has two aspects- one is the Market as it exists now and the Potential Market that we plan and can develop. All these past years we have been observing that the Cargo movement has been from Europe to Africa with very little going to Europe from Africa. This trend will change as we are preparing exportable Raw Materials which will support our Cargo carrying capability. We are already heavily booked to transport considerable amount of Cargo to Europe and the Middle East.

The fact that we were unable to develop this mode of transport has had direct negative effect on our economic growth, on our ability to effectively connect our country to the world, on our ability to travel to and from markets of our interest, from enabling our business men to create contacts, and our young men and women from frequently visiting Home. Eritrea is a Natural for Aviation. Our plans are not limited to just flying two airplanes up and down the Route. We are determined to create a trained Work Force which will strengthen our ability to compete. Within two months one of the most advanced Aviation schools will open its’ doors to sixty young men and women who are already graduates of well organized technical schools, who will join us to become Aircraft Engineers. They will be trained to International Standards and will have FAA or equivalent matriculation. The Pilot training school will also start with a modest number of students. University Graduates will join us as Management Trainees. I am also inviting Eritreans with Engineering, Marketing and Management training to join us. Our strength is our determination to develop our human resources. We firmly believe that we have what it takes not material resources but the development of our Human resources. This will be the focus of this effort.

Finally our trip to Asmara is now firmly set for the 10th of April out of San Antonio. Those of you who want to be part of this Historic journey need to have made all the necessary arrangement by the end of this month as we need to send details of the passports and status to the FAA. You will need to make arrangements with the designated travel Agencies for the return trip. Eritrean Airlines will do its best to make your trip memorable and fruitful. We hope to invite you to a seminar to explore ways you can participate in the creation of Tourist and Aviation related businesses. The seat allotment will be on first come first served basis. I apologize for the creeping delay- but when we meet on the plane – I promise to give you the complete picture of how we managed to put this business together and why I think the future is so bright.

With all my best wishes Asress Araia (Captain)

My concer with people like Dafla, General Tekeste, Wedi Vacaro …. Who used to be makers and shakers; who used to abuse and harass people when they have all the power and money telling us how the system was corrupted and failed. Where were these people when people sent to prison without committing a crime? Where were these people when investors were kicked left and right out of the country by the regime? Where were this people from 1993 to the day they abandoned the system?
when I was 17 years old ( in Asmara) I opposed the harassment Jehovas and confiscation thief properties. I was openly opposed until I was told by my parents to shut up. I was always against the injustice that was surrounded our nation. But people like you were clapping your hands and singing Wedi atom song. Today I don’t neither oppose nor support the government but I oppose opportunists who have no stand and flip flopping.

my question to Dafala is what did he do to get the CEO position of Eritrean Airlines? what role did he play for removal of Cap. Assres?
if what he is saying is right, then why did he try to save the titanic when he has all the facts that the airlines was doomed from the beginning?
My million dollar question is – he knows we didn’t have constitution, we didn’t have functioning institution, we didn’t have proper governance (as he is claiming). Why did he wait until final hours to jump off the train??

            Dani

You are now talking about a different kettle of fish! Captain Asres Araia can be contacted to answer why he left. Yes, Kibrom Dafla stayed behind and made a his contribution till he decided it is time to quit. He has served at various other positions besides and has paid his dues and sacrifices. Have you done what is needed and expected of you in the new Eritrea! Only then can you take ownership of your conscience (morale sense of right and wrong) as a responsible citizen.

I sense your desire to settle scores against individuals who were in a position of trust. At the time, Dafla was one of those who took the challenge to make the vision of setting up an Eritrean airliner against many odds. It was admirable. So, credit must go where it belongs. Mr Dafla is instrumental in helping facilitate, shape and define what is needed to establish a working airliner for our emerging nation of Eritrea. It is a national call which he took with great seriousness but … conditions had not permitted him to take it through.

Since 1993, due to shrinking market shares it created ‘air fare wars’ between competing air carriers. As a result, even well established carriers were experiencing difficulty generating revenue from ticket sales as in earlier years. So, competition among different air carriers started to grow increasingly. There were cut throat rate offers made to attract prospective passengers from other air carriers. Such factors are even much more detrimental to new up-start airliners like Eritrean Airlines. In short, the timing was not right and very unsettling for the national carrier to have a smooth climb.

You mentioned Dafla, General Tekeste and Wedi Vacaro… Why them not others? Yes, I agree injustice has to be fought back if one has the spine for that. Remember, I have no axe to grind. I just express my two cent to the on going dialog.

            Long live Eritrea!

  • Dani November 21, 2013

This man is crazy!! If all he says is true then why didn’t abandon the regime in 2003???
opportunist is the right name of this person!

  • Awet November 21, 2013

I am impress of his deep knowledge of the industry and the dictator. I applaud you Mr.Dafla for laying it all out for us to yse our judgement.,

I don’t know for how long the government supporters are going to live in denial
** Air Force falling a part.
** National Airline falling a part
    ** Media falling a part
** athletics and politicians running out of the country as fast as they can.
    ** Military personals getting out….
What other signals are the supporters looking for? The regime is falling down, fast.

    • MightyEmbasoyra November 21, 2013

      Awet,
They don’t have an antenna and that’s why they don’t receive the signal to begin with.
