When Does YPFDJ Involve in Renaissance?

_________________________________________________

As young citizen, I am always conscious about the futurity of my country. The patriotism of the old generation to bring national independence takes space in our national history though it has to be written or rewritten in more genuine way which accounts the merits and non-merits of the struggle to determine the journey for national independence. In most respect the dynamic and driving force in any nation is the young generation that turns dark into light, injustice into justice, instability into stability, poverty into prosperity, but it always matters what the nation invest in citizens.

The most coordinated youth organization which has close linkage to the existing government in Eritrea is Young People’s Front for Democracy and Justice (YPFDJ). The organization articulates that Eritrean youth have always played a critical and decisive role throughout the Eritrean history struggle; a struggle that has taken generations.

Nonetheless, currently, the position, efforts and character of the Eritrean youths can be liquidly categorized into five classes:

  1. Youths, die hard to support the government;
  2. Youths, die hard to support the opposition;
  3. Youths, opportunist, owned mobile mind, have not principle;
  4. Youths, potential, but hibernating to endow change at the expense of others; and
  5. Youths, passive and desperate, felt not certainty about their futurity.

On the side of YPFDJ, the existing Eritrean young generation is now sharing the burden of responsibility in both building prosperous Eritrea and challenging the threats to deny the Eritrean people from their endeavor to pursue complete national independence and the chance to live in peace and harmony. This political perception always mixes the internal weaknesses and external pressures that enable the Government of Eritrea to manipulate the situation to its advantage.

Indeed establishing a prosperous Eritrea is a dream of everyone who aspires to see the existence and viability of future Eritrea. According to YPFDJ the role of the organization is to play a leading role in organizing the young Eritreans and creating a platform where young Eritreans can play significant role to contribute towards building a viable state of Eritrea, and to ensure an effective organization exists where young Eritreans can agree on a common vision.

However, the practical situation in Eritrea questions the role that YPFDJ wants to play since most of the young citizens are found insignificant to involve in their nation affairs with a sense of leadership, ownership and responsibility. The young generation has no or least impact in national policy; what practically the youths are largely involved in forced military conscription and forced labor though YPFDJ describes the situation as form of “patriotism”. The real meaning of patriotism is jingoism and strong national feeling to love and dedicate to the country you belong, but the running system in Eritrea put the citizens in more frustration, angst and anxiety which results excessive migration, unnecessary identity crisis, and spoiled national image.

One of the major goals of YPFDJ is to build a strong, conscious and patriotic youth movement. This goal has never been attained for the last ten years with PFDJ leadership and practiced instable political system. Rather the new generation has failed to preserve the tradition and values of struggle or “Sewra”; and the Front remains unwilling and incompetent to transfer to young generation.

The other goal of YPFDJ is to ensure the continuity of all the values of the popular front that enabled to serve the interest of Eritrean people. Which values? If there is, is PFDJ willing to transfer? What seeds they are sawing?

For the last twenty years the “popular front” has failed either to preserve the positive values of struggle or to cope the more advanced governance system in Eritrea. The inherent weakness of most members of YPFDJ, they are not insiders. Like many other youths inside the country have not been well tested at the time of war and peace. They often have annual trip for certain purpose- mostly to hold meetings, to visit recreations or to see some undertaken developments; they are less likely to understand the actual behavior of the government, and the realistic living condition of the people; or at least they are reluctant to feel the pain of the ordinary people as their own pain. There is a very instructive proverb in Eritrean tradition: “Ab kebidi Tsughub Yelen Tumy” which means if someone is with full stomach, he/she does not sense emptiness of others. The implication of this proverb is that the growing custom of egoism among Eritrean societies which divides the people by greed and narrow self interest.

This diaspora based organization usually gets confused with the idealistic national policies and programme that the government systematically uses to politicize outsiders via media outlets. Nonetheless, theory is quite different from practice. For instance the government has opened schools, but filled with forced teachers and unwilling students; the government has built dams, but do not produce a piece of bread to feed children (i.e. Eritreans have lost the tradition of feeding from hand to mouth what we call subsistence farming that continues for centuries); the government has built roads, but do not allow free movement of people and business transactions; the government has stated human capital as “national asset” but marginalize the contribution of intellectuals and kills the spirit of free academic research;  the government has produced thousands of cadre, but never preserve the historic patriotism of the Eritrean people. What does the YPFDJ need to ensure the continuity of all the values of the popular front that enabled to serve the interest of Eritrean people?

The whole internal challenges that Eritrea has faced are often justified by the unresolved border issue with Ethiopia, and “foreign conspiracy” that YPFDJ usually emphasizes in their political campaign. Nonetheless, having external challenges does not mean to destroy patriotism, justice, educational values, religious institutions, and business firms.  I do believe that YPFDJ embraces influential and dynamic citizens, who are very successful in academics, can understand the trend of the nation if they approach with sincere heart and mind.

They should work to save the wounded citizens in order to save the nation. However, if YPFDJ is working as a tool to serve the autocracy which permanently torture, detain and murder innocent citizens, only because of their political difference or faith, it will open a black chapter in the national history. In fact there is no strong correlation between the name of the organization, Young People’s Front for Democracy and Justice, and its stated goals which focus to build a strong, conscious and patriotic youth movement and to ensure the continuity of all the values of the popular front (i.e. PFDJ). There is no any notion of democracy or justice in the organizational goals; it remains only as codification or identification of the organization.

Therefore, if the YPFDJ really endeavors to build a strong, conscious and patriotic youth movement, the organization should put primarily the nation as the center of the movement, not the interest of the Front which is momentary. Secondly, the organization should be courageous, capable and independent enough to accept good and constructive values of the PFDJ, if there is, and reject the wrong values that destitute the Red Sea nation for decades doing a credible research and independent policy analysis. Last but not least the organization should be engaged in more academic, cultured and civilized discussion and debate with any other youth movements that can generate different political and philosophical perspectives that enable to develop the culture of tolerance and to establish a peaceful, united and democratic Eritrea. National interest is first, organizational interest is secondary. Attempts of using PFDJ’s ladder to climb up is a bad mission. YPFDJ needs a swift renaissance to save the nation rather than serving a shield for wrong and destructive system.

Eritrea people wants democracy, peace and stablity.
You told us that, we have to accept a torrorist organisation like YPFDJ and PFDJ.
Mr Tewold, you know, they should accept the people is request before they accepted, PFDJ is the only enemy of Eritrea people who made us to be sold in this modren technology, mr teweld, your idea is distructive and not constructive, tell PFDJ to accept and do constitution that united all Eritrean people together then we will accept them. Otherwise don’t tell us what do for PFJD at this time,
I don’t like your analysis and your agenda seem to distructed oppostion fighter for freedom and justice in Eritrea. you might be an agent of the bratal dictator and part of the YPFDJ puppets of Isaias and Monkey. Go to meskerem and don’t come here, assenna stop such people pretending to be helpful but they are distructive agents.

      Dear Harnetna,

I would like to advice you to read the article twice with open heart and mind so as to understand it properly. If you fail to understand, ask other people to assist you to get the right meaning. Actually, there is a proverb in English which says: “Think twice before you speak once.”

My brother/sister, “Self knowledge is the beginning of human wisdom”. Don’t judge others unless you define yourself; unless you measure your position. Read slowly the experience of many countries to comprehend on how to travel the road of democracy, peace and stability. If not,

How you raise the concept of democracy, if you are not willing to respect the opinion or perspective of others?

How you voice peace, if your mind is filled with hatred and revenge?

How you dream about stability, if you have not discipline, tolerance, compassion and respect to others no matter their origin, race, faith or political thought?

If we do not develop a democratic habit, we should not accuse others for not being democrats. If I was PFDJ, please teach me how to be democratic. Brother/sister, let us to be a role model in order to inspire others.

      Thank you!!

      Adhanom

        Mr Adhanom
        i understand your meaning,
but you know better if we were the people entering Eritrea at this time, they would not hesitate to cut our head as they are doing now for the prisoners.
your artcle is not a timed artcle, i appreciate your thoughs but that is not the time now. though,
        – Ypfdj is not only use, they are the old and old tegadelti, hence they know what they are doing and they are contributing for the oppression of our land. There is not mercy in their hand. They are the main enemies of Eritrean people.
-Ypfdj has few followers who were Amche and mixed…they might be confused but they are there deliverately.
-Don’t expect from ypfdj anything otherwise we will lose like wedi Ali,
-Don’t put youth at risk calling for co-opperation with ypfdj, they say yes but then you know they will be a barrier again for our struggle.
-Its ridiculous to expect from these puppets.
we know democracy more than anyone, but they can not use us in the name of democracy and to put us at risk.
We firt need to have our country and then we will deal with ypfdj and other bastards. We can not allow people who are more distructive to our country and people to come and free in the name of democracy,mr tewelde, thanks but that is not the time of call, pfdj is bratal and his followers are puppet and mental selfish people only. no mercy to these recognised.

  • Halafi Mengedi March 3, 2013

    Adhanom ! Well said.

I would , however, say that behind almost every Young PFDJ, there is a die hard “HGDEFite” parent. In addition , these YPFDJs seem to be most active in the diaspora. Their knowledge about the situation inside Eritrea and among Eritreans is very limited, and comes from :

    A) Their die-hard parents ,
    B) TV-ER and
    C) “Mekete” meetings held by PFDJ stooges.

As you also articulated in your article, these members of the so called Y-PFDJ have never bore the brunt of the PFDJ’s attack on the Eritrean youth in particular and the Eritrean society in general. When will Y-PFDJ wake up and smell the coffee then ? The answer is when PFDJ finally comes for them.

There is a famous statement by Martin Niemoller which is most appropriate for the Y-PFDJ. It goes like this with minor change:

First they came for the communists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jehovah’s Witnesses,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jehovah’s Witness.

Then they came for the Protestants, the Orthodox , and Catholics,
    and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a
a protestant, nor was I a Catholic or an orthodox.

    Then they came for ME,
and there was no one left to speak for ME.

“When Does YPFDJ Involve in Renaissance?”

WHEN THE SO CALLED OPPOSITION STOP:

    -TAKING ORDER FROM ETHIOPIAN GOV

    -GOING TO AWASSA AND DEBREZEITY

-BEING ERITREANS DAY TIME AND ETHIOPIANS NIGHT TIME

-KEEP QUITE WHEN ETHIOPIA INVADES ERITREAN TERRITORY

    -RECOGNIZING BADEM AS ETHIOPIAN TERRITORY

    – MOURN FOR ONE MONTH WHEN ETHIOPIAN LEADERS ARE DYING

-CHEATING OUR PEOPLE AND SAY ” ETHIOPIANS ARE THE CAUSE OF ALL THE MESS IN ERITREA”

-SAYING ETHIOPIANS RECOGNIZE ERITREA AS A NATION DEEP AT HEART

    • Sarah March 3, 2013

      Belay, you wrote
      ‘-TAKING ORDER FROM ETHIOPIAN GOV
      -GOING TO AWASSA AND DEBREZEITY’
What is wrong with going there? what orders are you referring to. The opposition is did not take any action so far? Do you think that if ethiopia gave orders and the opposition took it, we would be here now? But it did not happen. Ethiopians are being kind enough to allow us to me in their country.
Belay, you are angry about something you can not change. Ethiopia will always be our neighbor and we will have good relations with all our neighbors in the future. What will happen to you then if you are so angry now that other people decide to go to Ethiopia. They are human being like you and me. Where do you want the opposition to meet? Sudan or eritrea? Or maybe you are thinking there should not be opposition at all.
I am sorry but you are so out of logic when you keep blaming neighbors when your own house is in such a mess that renders every eritrean a victim. I think you have run out of all reasons you can use to protect dictatorship.

    • Halafi Mengedi March 3, 2013

      Belay,

So, you are telling us that Y-PFDJ’s fight against the tyrant in our midst depends upon the actions or inaction of the opposition. At the same time, your angry argument posits that the opposition is involved in what you referred to as “Renaissance”. Jeez, what an oxymoron rhetorical argument! You indicated to us that you don’t know what you are talking about.

  • belay nega March 3, 2013

    HALLOW SARA

“The opposition is did not take any action so far?”

    WHAT KIND?

” Ethiopians are being kind enough to allow us to me in their country.”

ETHIOPIANS HAVE A VERY DANGEROUS SAYING

“DAR SIFERS MAHAL YENEBERE DAR YEHONAL”=WHEN THE EDGE IS OVER THE MIDDLE WILL BE EDGE

IS A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THEY SHOW YOU THEIR REAL FEELING ABOUT YOU

.” Ethiopia will always be our neighbor”

FOR GOD SAKE IF YOU REALLY LOVE ETHIOPIANS STOP SAYING neighbor THAT WORD IS A NIGHT MARE
    TO THEM

“they are human being like you and me.”

THEY ARE NOT ONLY HUMAN BEING BUT OUR BROTHERS BY BLOOD AND ORIGIN

THAT IS WHY THEY DO NOT LIKE BEING CALLED neighbor

“Or maybe you are thinking there should not be opposition at all”

AS FAR AS THEY ARE NOT TRYING TO TRADE THE FLATTED TIRE TRACK WHO CAUSED THE PROBLEM TO A LEAKY BOAT WITHOUT A COMPASS I AM OK

“I think you have run out of all reasons you can use to protect dictatorship”

THE ONLY REASON WHY I APPRECIATE P.E.A IS THE WAY HE DROVE SAFELY THE FLATTED TIRE TRACK TO AN END

I REALLY APPRECIATE HIM FOR SAVING US FROM WONDERING ON HOW WOULD LOOK LIKE FREE ERITREA DESPITE THE CONSEQUENCE OF COURSE

I CANNOT AFFORD TO DENY HE IS A VICTIM LIKE ME AND YOU

    • A.A Yassin March 3, 2013

You are right leadership is the key word.We do not worship individuals but without the involvement of the likes of President Issaias Afeworki Eritrea would have never got its independence.

      • Sarah March 3, 2013

‘the likes of him’ ha ha. ‘liberation’ came because many fought and ten of thousands died. But then, Gedli was a corporate thing where the boss gets the credit for what others sweat, wasn’t it?
liberations do not come because someone sat somewhere safe and commanded. Watch documentaries of Nicaragua. and you can understand what it takes to liberate a country?
The ‘liberation’ came because people believed in it and worked for it.
What kind of leadership would drive a country and its people to such abyss. Learn about eritrean is synnai and libya and segereab and Mai aini etc. The think if all those people left their country because they could not stand a good leadership?
Being twisted, manipulative and conniving has never been equated to leadership. Maybe in PFDJ’s world.

      • ahmed saleh March 3, 2013

        Sarah
Regardless , the love of neighbor is the holly book
teachings . Certainly we observe people who are
stuck inside the box of stupid partisan politics game .
We can not neglect the distractions on those poor
peasants on both side of the border on that conflict .
Hatred bring confrontation and war bring terror on
ordinary people livelihood . As they said ” old people
ignite the fire , young oned die to dinguidh

        • ahmed saleh March 3, 2013

          Pardon me , read as ;
young ones fie to extinguish the fire . Like ourselves
experience the war mongers are still having fun but
those thousands who perished became history .

        • Sarah March 3, 2013

          Ahmed,
Sad as it is, it is true. I do agree with your points.

    • haile g. tensae March 3, 2013

      Mr Belay Nega

I approciated your concern that the opposition should be independent. However; the opposition are not as par to the President Issayas. He is so smart to destroy the world, let alone the opposition. He has the power, money, resource, and people. He build the EPLF and PFDJ on his own way, it took him over forty years. It was built by mercy less kiling. WE tolarated that for the sack of Independence. We lost the justicies during the struggle. We knew it then; but, we were hoping after independence the people will be rising.

We were Wrong!!!!!, he did it, One at a time. He destroyed the fabrics of society. Such as, when Johova and Pentecoste were delegitimized as a citizens. Eritrean people support the governement or the Presisdent Issayas. The Vetern Fighter purges with no compensation. The Mai Habar massacer for the handcap fighters. The merchants, the construction contractors, the clince closing for Medical Doctors, the wealty make them poor, the transportation shoretages, one bread a day, the 50 calories for a man as rushing. He destryed the people.
      He plunders the nation.

Then, The oppositions leaders has difficulties to unified the Eritrean mass. At present the majority of Eritrean oppose; yet, unorganized. Belay! ask why is this happening? Eritreans were trained not trust anyone. Even a brother or a sister.
They are agents of the enemy CIA, weyane….ect.

Ethiopia. EPRDF: or Tigray are the strongest supporter for our Independence. With out the EPRDF: there will never be an Independent Eritrea. EPRDF is the defender of INdependent Eritrea. Thanks, to the lait Priminster Meles, may his soul rest on peace.

We, Eritrean, we have to ask ourselves; with open mind how things work? “What went wrong? Why this happened? Who is the master mind of this cruelty?”. As you said, there is no Eritrean Blood or there is no Ethiopian Blood. It is a Habesha blood. We are brothers and sisters. We have a different nation interest.

The only country support Eritrea, is Ethipoia. The President of Eritrea is the slick person and the enemy of Eritrea and Ethiopia. You have to know him as person and as a leader. Tell me, when was the President of Eritrea took any responsibility for his decissions. He always blame others. He is clean. He told the world Eritrean economy is better tha Sweden. Do you remember that?

Please, audit the resource of the nation. Looke againe what he dose for Education for our future youth. Ethiopia is a sister nation and a neighbour. It is a fact.

Going to Ethiopia is not a crime. I went there. I did not got any order from Ethiopia.

Keep doing the good work and open up the rightfull mind and destroy the hate.
      Hawka

You can not separate a son from his father . YPFDJ are
partisian baby products under umbrella of father HGDF .
It is not an independent organization rather typically
shallow formed partisan thinking force with all marks
hardcore of PFDJ. politics . This youth party run and
finnanced by the government under strict supervisory
of its cadres . I do not blame the youngs but the politicsl
games msnship behind in our government .
